@Terry I assume that the culture beliefs of "no sex till marriage" and expectation of asking a fathers permission to marry kind of functioned as an age of consent law before one was codified. And women weren't generally wandering far from the farm to find strangers to fuck. If you wanted to take a girl off her fathers property you would probably have to know him pretty well. The whole culture of the world was radically different before industrialization and compulsory schooling.
