@carolen @HebrideanHecate @BILLSan345 @Flick I've recently started lifting weights (only 2kg so far as I am not very fit but I would like to not get osteoporosis after menopause) so have been watching a few vids on YouTube to get ideas for exercises. One of the women on there said her goal is to be able to lift any man who threatens her over her head and bodyslam him to the ground. I think that's an admirable goal!

@EatKnitSleep2 that's quite some goal! Well done on starting weight training, I'm only a novice too (since late September) but have found benefits. Stairs no longer quite the challenge they were and lifting shopping is easier, too 😂Most of my work is on machines, the only free weights I use are 4kg side raises and 6kg press ups which is more than enough for me, right nowDon't over extend yourself but keep at it, it's surprisingly addictive 🙂@HebrideanHecate @BILLSan345 @Flick

Might go back when I've built up a bit more confidence at home.I hope it does get addictive because right now I'm doing it all quite grudgingly. A lot of Nautilus or Universal equipment (cables and weights) have charts showing the muscle groups, just be aware they all adjust seats and levers for different bodies.

When you feel up to it, maybe have a word with The Management and explain what (didn't) happen? They might make more of an effort to induct you in a way that works better for you - perhaps even one-to-one if you were comfortable with that. Rarely hurts to ask although I get that you may not be in a place to do that, at the moment...

Luckily, there's 2 gyms in town so will probably try the other one next time. It's also 24 hours, which suits my night owl/ insomniac tendencies.

Legs and shoulders Mix in abdominal, core, cardio wheneverYou can do a lot with just dumbbells and an incline/flat benchForm is more important with free weights, slow dedicated movements and reps, not reckless swinging with too heavy a weight. Have fun with it!
