In my defense, it seems a mutual confusion. I have Somali neighbors. They almost never come out of the house so I have mostly just seen them darkly though a car window as they come and go. But they have seen me out in the yard waving to them hundreds of times.This past fall I finally went to knock on their door to get their landlord's number (he was dumping leaves on my property) the lady was confused when I said I was her neighbor. She had to ask which one.The one who lives 20 ft from you! But I couldn't complain. I couldn't have picked her out of a line-up of two people either.

Seriously, tho, it's the same thing over here, in Europe. Some of us are born and raised here, or have permanent residence, but we're often at the bottom of the economic rungs. Our employment is always precarious, even if our own employers pay decent wages, as our employer's competition has some fresh imports and takes their passports away and makes them work like slaves and live in barracks and all sorts of crazy stuff. And once those people get residence permits, and move up the economic ladder, their employers just bring in more and it's their turn to be the smucks.The money saved goes into the boss' pocket, so he's effectively stealing from his own worker. This is why working class minorities can't seem to ever get a break: their employers and potential employers flood the job market with labor, to keep the price of wages down.

Who taught you history? Slavery wasn't illegal until after the war was well underway. Also, on most issues the democrat and republican parties have switched sides since then, starting for example with racial equality. I live close to the Mexican border and all the illegal immigrants I've met here came to work, yes, but they came on their own accord to send money back home, they were not shipped here by some corporation nor did they come for government hand outs. and the work they do is cheap, but most Americans don't wanna do it, like picking produce.
