       Australia has introduced the 2026 “Combating Antisemitism, Hate and Extremism Bill”, a sweeping law that punishes speech for causing “fear” even if no harm occurs, carrying penalties of up to 5 years in prison.It goes further. The law applies to tweets, blogs, memes, and even quoting scripture online, and explicitly states it doesn’t matter whether anyone actually felt hatred or fear. It even allows authorities to retroactively charge people for speech made before the law existed.Police are also granted powers to ban groups without due process, including groups outside Australia, and citizens can face up to 15 years in prison for “supporting” them.
