I know it's necessary now but we got through most of our history with no income tax. There was a brief income tax during the Civil War but it was tiny, I think like 5% max? And that was just temporary. We went through the entire industrial revolution and the Gilded Age without an income tax. We had taxes on things like liquor and other vice goods, and brought in our income that way. At times we even had a surplus. I know an income tax is the easiest way to get money from those who earn far more than they could ever spend, but there might be an alternative to a universal income tax. Excise taxes are cool, and the courts can go fuck themselves we have a right to pass tarrifs, fire activist judges somehow and we'll be chilling.

@chud @wishgranter14 I see @ineedmorechese is conflating the Federal government with "the country." Common, that conceit is....The worst problem with ending the income tax is envy. It's a "progressive" tax, and that's axiomatically good. Tariffs, sin taxes, they're "regressive" and that's axiomatically bad.I have no idea what Trump is talking about except to maybe get the idea out there.I don't see the numbers adding up, let alone the built in increases in "entitlement" programs like Social Security (which is already drawing from the general fisc, ignore any idiot who talks about it being "insolvent" soon!!!, there is no loxbox, just filing cabinets of unmarketable Treasury bonds, of course all the money was spend as soon as it came in).And of course it also comes down to buying votes. Thus a new rabbit to chase with meat on it is fraud, just how close to at least balancing the budget might that get us with a major effort. But we have more than just some "activist judges," for example the Trump phenomena is just starting to replace the GOPe. Which for example wants to fund the NED, who's CEO is paid twice Rubio's, and which happily and on record took part in suppressing Trump's social media reach after his first term (or maybe starting before? For example Parler was killed simply because Trump might start using it....)

Yeah I won't disagree that there might be a much more complicated plan in place, but sometimes it's useful to just focus on the obvious and superficial stuff because it's the easiest thing to get others on board with and still manages to undermine the more insidious and complciated plans. But that doesn't mean you are wrong 👍
