@mushroom_soup@poa.st I don't think i've seen them all but the director's shit is very dark. His work has been strongly associated with a collection of films often described as new extreme films. Highlighting their challenging sexual and violent bodily imagery, Tim Palmer has described them as part of a cinéma du corps (cinema of the body), and a cinema of 'brutal intimacy' because of its attenuated use of narrative, generally assaulting and often illegible cinematography, confrontational subject material, a treatment of sexual behavior as violent rather than mutually intimate, and a pervasive sense of social nihilism or despair.[14]

@miscbrains i'm a horror movie fan, i know plenty about new french extremity as a genre. imho irreversible was alright but i was sort of expecting more due to its reputation. i like his movie Climax better

@miscbrains @mushroom_soup Yet... I have to admit, it seems like somebody stretched his preferred medium to its limits and had a plan. I rather watch this if I have to choose than what they offer us in the movies now.

@CapitalB@noauthority.social @mushroom_soup@poa.st It's quite a movie. Was just a, I think one viewing is enough for me type of affair. It's definitely far afield from most stuff you see nowadays. That's for sure.I'd recommend it in general, if you are amenable to art house movies. Kind of worth it at least for appreciating Bellucci being a smokeshow.

@miscbrains @CapitalB i realize the average person on fedi is going to watch this, see the first brown person dancing and immediate write it off but it was a very good and interesting movie which i liked more than irreversible. it has multiple long shots including one that's like over half an hour, very good film work and cinematography

@mushroom_soup@poa.st @CapitalB@noauthority.social Lol, i was tempted to make a snarky remark about you recommending it based on that. But Noe is Noe, so i'm sure it passes muster.
