Ok, I’m not a big tool guy because I don’t own property but I will probably start buying them when I do. I have a dewalt drill and all my old mil friends said dewalt makes the best shit. Lotta dewalt haters here, but there’s people here that hate Rust and vibe coding and weezer so I have to figure out if it’s real or if they’re just haters.

@john_darksoul when you're buying into a power tool brand, you're essentially buying the battery platform. Milwaukee's batteries are pretty good at sheer battery life, DeWalt batteries tend to offer better raw power output, and Makitas are worse in both regards but tend to last the longest over time (although Makita US has been getting shit recently, and Makita Japan tools are expensive compared to Milwaukee and DeWalt).

@john_darksoul for corded tools it's going to depend on the specific model of tool. just because one thing from a brand is good doesn't mean something else isI have a bunch of corded dewalt shit and it's fine I guess but it's nothing special. IMO they're largely trading on their reputation from 30 years ago. I will say none of my dewalt stuff has actually stopped workingmilwaukee is mega retard overpriced if you ask me but the tools are supposed to be pretty goodfor cordless all of the major brands make good stuff, as long as you're not buying the cheapest stuff they have. as noted by others that's going to mostly be about the battery system in the end. I have like 20 ryobi batteries so I buy ryobi unless I have a really, really good reason to get something else

@john_darksoul I will wade into the exciting world of loyalty to tool brands for a second to give my NUCLEAR HOT MAN TAKE. (It is an ice cold take)I own some land but I don't have a ton of outbuildings or large projects and I'm not intending to work as a contractor so I buy Ryobi. They work good for the amount I use them, my mom has Ryobi stuff so I can steal her tools and batteries, and they make a ton of useful tools on the same battery system that are of a solid enough quality. Plus, same company that makes Milwaukee, just slightly cheaper parts.Milwaukee is catching up on tool selection and even has a push mower now, but I'm on the Ryobi batteries and I've seen handy old guys with the old blue Ryobi tools that still work, still use the same batteries. So for me, it's fine. I'm just using them around the house/property, not spending ten hours on a worksite six days a week.My oldest Ryobi drill from like 2009, plug-in, and it still punches through masonry and studs just fine. I buy the brushless tools. They do what I want. Haven't had one break and my batteries work with the shop vac and work lights and everything else.

Couldn't hardly find that style battery anymore, but you could literally get a whole new drill and two batteries for less than what they wanted for two old batteries. Designed obsolescence.

This is why I went for Milwaukee 18V - they have maintained that product line for a very long time (even when the other manufacturers raced up to 24/40V) and my main concern was long term support once I'm invested in the tool/battery sets.
