@waifu In my opinion, for a fandom to survive the people in it must be more interested in talking about the Thing (X-files, Transformers, etc.) than they are about themselves (how they vote, their personal politics, opinions IRL current day events, pr0n0uns, etc.) When the latter exists in greater amount than the former, the fandom dies off or the fans change it to a speakeasy setup (invite-only forums, etc.)
