I know Jay Powell and respect him. Even when we disagree on policy, he (a) understands that his voice has the power to move markets and (b) zealously defends the independence of the Fed. He is not a person who would make a statement like this lightly. Will say more shortly. https://www.federalreserve.gov/newsevents/speech/powell20260111a.htm

@SeanCasten I wonder if he has some evidence of their attempts to coerce him? (Even if he doesn't it's been transparent, but I'm thinking about the many corruption trials that will be needed. This is one more for the pile and a text message saying "Listen Jay this could all go away if you played ball" would be nice for efficiency.)

@futurebird @SeanCasten Except that it won't, this is going to be the largest blanket pardon for all crimes ever issued. Call it December 2026, the governments will be hollowed out, pardoned and trump will manipulate as hard as he can for as long as he can.

@futurebird @SeanCasten During the first term FBI director James Comey was summoned to Trump's office and expected to declare total loyalty to Donald Trump. He was so creeped out over the incident that he documented everything that was said afterwards. That didn't stop Trump from backstabbing Comey and sending his goons after him.
