@Shlomo @YeetLibs uncoated cellophane wrap is just cellulose, that's the crispy chicken trick. Unfortunately for third worlders, the industry has since moved on to other plastics which are not safe, obviously. How much of this the falconry guy knows, no idea. But it's a common misunderstanding. Some asians specifically buy cellophane because they know what they're doing, but I wouldn't count on it.

@WandererUber @Shlomo @YeetLibs Falconry finance first made a name back when the train derailed in Ohio East Palestine. This is disturbing but interesting. Cellulose is nbd by itself, but I doubt it would be as “clean“ as the cellulose found in lettuce. The only plastic I feel okay cooking in is polyethylene, and that’s on rare occasions at low temps— sous vide or lightweight camping with dehydrated cook in bag stuff.

@YeetLibs @Shlomo I know that he isn't serious. Doesn't mean he knows about the cellophane thing, or this: Boiling soup thing is "reasonable". Old science class gimmick. Bag won't exceed boiling point of water until the water evaporates. Made from the same plastics as "microwave-safe" containers

@WandererUber @Shlomo @YeetLibs PE is chemically inert and similar enough to ethylene found naturally in fruit that some worms have enzymes to break it down. Not ideal to cook in but unlikely to harm you.

@WandererUber @BowsacNoodle @Shlomo @YeetLibs Cast iron is great, you should try it.You just wash it after each time you cook with as hot water as your tap allows, no soap, dry it off, apply a little grease/oil and you're good for another time. No risk of weird shit falling off, like there is with non-stick pans.

@YeetLibs This is part of the nigger's 4D chess. If they start eating plastic, then they're going to be full of microplastics. If they are full of microplastics, that means they're not suitable for eating. This will prevent white people from eating them, and therefore keep them alive for longer.

@BowsacNoodle @Alex1488 @Shlomo @WandererUber @YeetLibs aluminum sucks to cook with though, no thermal mass. Nice thing about cast is I can get it up to temp for a soup and just turn it off and let it simmer for an hour, or I can get it to temp for a steak and not have to worry about the burner turning on and overheating it at the worst time etc

@sapphire @Alex1488 @BowsacNoodle @Shlomo @YeetLibs I think in this century it should be possible to have a cooktop that holds the temperature I set and not have to manually fiddle with it but I agree with the rest. I have an induction stove though so I actually like low thermal mass. I don't feel like waiting and/or dumping a bunch of heat into the pot

@sapphire @Alex1488 @Shlomo @WandererUber @YeetLibs There are times when you DO NOT want thermal mass though. My point is people can and should season their aluminum just like they do cast iron.

@WandererUber @sapphire @Alex1488 @Shlomo @YeetLibs Cooktops are funny because they’re incredibly simple tech still, although induction is a bit nicer. You can hook up an electric ceramic glass top stove without a ground and it won’t power on, but the burners will work since they’re designed to operate 100% on their heat pulse until it reaches temperature as defined by resistor or potentiometer (whatever analog thing is in the dial).

@BowsacNoodle @nigger @Alex1488 @Shlomo @YeetLibs if the pan is up to temperature, thermal mass doesn't matter for this from a pure thermodynamics standpoint...A stainless pan at temp N does not "suck" any more heat than a cast iron pan at same temp N.I don't know the first thing about technique though, if you lift a lot it could be different

@BowsacNoodle @nigger @Alex1488 @Shlomo @YeetLibs dude you can tell I don't know the first thing about cooking lmfao, I thought when you said "putting it into the pan doesn't suck all the heat out" that the pan sucks the heat out of the steak because it... I don't know why actually:kekw:

@BowsacNoodle @nigger @Alex1488 @Shlomo @YeetLibs I probably didn't think about it because I am used to cooking on low thermal mass with an induction hob and that thing is instant in all cases, so idgaf

@WandererUber @nigger @Alex1488 @Shlomo @YeetLibs Yeah man induction is a different beast. It actually is very different to cook on when you’re used to certain things taking xyz time and such.

@BowsacNoodle @WandererUber @nigger @Shlomo @YeetLibs We all burnt some food while learning. The road to good cooking is paved with charcoal and soot from failed cooking.

@BowsacNoodle @WandererUber @nigger @Alex1488 @Shlomo @YeetLibs yeah, I've done literally hundreds of steaks, cast iron is the best and more critically most foolproof method. Not only does the high weight mean you can store more energy in it, but also cast iron ( and carbon steel ) are safer up to higher temps

@BowsacNoodle @WandererUber @nigger @Alex1488 @Shlomo @YeetLibs the reason i ditched non-stick totally is that the PTFE starts delaminating at high enough temps, and you could get it into your food if you have any scratches in the surface. PTFE for light duty compressors, sure. For food prep? maybe not

@sickburnbro @WandererUber @nigger @Alex1488 @Shlomo @YeetLibs Teflon Flu was a real thing. It’s fine to use as long as you start with butter or oil in the pan to absorb heat and make sure you cook before it starts to burn. My butter not burning is a sign that my pan doesn’t get too hot.

@sickburnbro @Alex1488 @BowsacNoodle @Shlomo @WandererUber @YeetLibs apparently if it gets in your food it passes through you, but that doesn't matter to me, any health consequence caused by heat an induction stove can produce, precludes it from use in cooking to me

@nigger @Alex1488 @BowsacNoodle @Shlomo @WandererUber @YeetLibs sadly, the "I only eat X variety of raw food" has been pretty well mined.Maybe there is some room for "I only use virgin marble to grind my nuts and fruits"
