It's never gonna work out. I can't deny my cultural heritage to find a religious community and be happy and heal at the same time. I also can't meet the baseline standards required for the different monotheisms. And some of them, have... issues. Okay, being real, the problem of hell makes me think they are lying about their teachings in general. I tried to resolve it. It's irresolvable. So, irreligious but with authenticity in cultural presentation. (And not fuckin telling a soul in my town that I left Islam.)

@georgia Christian Science was my first religion, and my second (which I was forcibly converted to with beatings) was Evangelical Protestantism in the tradition of Billy Graham. I have also been Baptist, Methodist, Neo-Ebionite, and Messianic. And then also briefly tried to convert to Judaism, and also have been several types of Muslim. (I couldn't make it stick.)

@technicallydifficult imo a lot of the bible is divinely revealed but not all of it. same with the many upanishads (some like the isha upanishad are clearly revealed). have you read the Bhagavad Gita? its a pretty good primer on what hinduism would become.

@georgia I used to be Buddhist. I tried 4 schools of thought in Mahayanna and also 1 in Theravada. (50 religions is over 1/3 of all major religions). Used to really dig the Maezumi linneage Soto Zen teachings.Have read the Vedas and Baghvad Gita. And also the Pali Canon, Heart and Lotus Sutras, and used to try to emulate Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva (Guansiyin Pusa/ Kanzeon Bosatsu).

@georgia Have also read Daoist scriptures, the Eddas, Sagas, various BOS of modern pagans, Greek and Roman and Egyptian Mythologies, and used to dedicate myself to the Roman Goddess Libertas Mater, and had tried many religions. 50. Was even into Proto-Indo-European Reconstructionist Polytheistic Shamanism. (Not dissimilar in structure to Shinto.) Was also an Ise School Shintoist, an Inari Shintoist, and a Kokokyoshi (follower of Konkokyo, a monotheistic Shinto sect). I have also tried Temple Satanism (non-theistic humanist religion that rejects the brutality of monotheistic faiths and worships one's own potential as a human being, essentially autoalotry).

@technicallydifficult @georgia usually rendered apokatastasisthe restoration of all things. it’s a word paul uses to describe what is to come but it generally refers to a sort of universalism a lot of patristic era christians held to (including some church fathers). hell is not vengeance but purification and does not have the final claim on anyone

@technicallydifficult @georgia its a position i got dragged into kinda kicking and screaming lol. i have some nonzero trad instincts and though i would consider it orthodox, it is uncommon in this day. i was trying to argue some theological points based in things that are rather standard and found it to be the clear implication of what i was saying.among contemporary figures its often associated with david bentley hart but more broadly its associated with christian theologies that thoroughly reject dualism

@georgia @lizzie Isaiah also predicts the rise of Islam, so you'd think that would make them happy. but noooooo. They get salty if you say it. Isaiah 42 has place names from Medina and Makkah, and the muslims get very upset when you tell them that the Bible has prophecies about them. It's not saying anything wrong or bad about them. But for some reason, they are scared of the bible. Like, afraid of reading and comparing. Like, the same way christians are scared of touching a quran.

@technicallydifficult @georgia @lizzie Yeah, that's fairly common when one takes a "scriptural inerrancy" position (which is actually fairly new and would have been very foreign to how the reformers understood Sola Scriptura) and try to see scripture as a continuous narrative that speaks to a single way for every person in every time to live rather than accepting that scripture speaks from multiple perspectives to different life situations as is common outside of American Evangelicalism.

@NotAFemboy @georgia @lizzie She also argues for several different types of God concepts and doesn't seem to understand that they are different. In the past year I have heard:Jesus Only Monotheism (ignoring the father and holy spirit entirely)regualar TrinitarianismPauline DualismNeoplatonic DualismJewish HenotheismMarcionite DualismGnostic Dualismpolytheistic trinitarianism (tritheism)adoptionismmodalismpatripassianismBut at no point did she think these were different concepts. Nor was she open to the other option, That there's One God.

@technicallydifficult @georgia @lizzie Yeah, as a Christian I don't really understand the hatred of Islam and the love for Judaism, all three have more in common than they have different, but Christianity and Islam are far more similar to one another than either are to Judaism. Probably just tyranny of small differences and the fact that white supremacy and anti-colonialism are wrapped up in these discussions and very few actually are speaking of the *religions* so much as they are of ethnic conflicts some of which are either very old, very bloody or often both.

@technicallydifficult @NotAFemboy @apophis @georgia tbh it’ll take me a bit to give a decent explanation. Christology isn’t understood through just saying things (there are rigorous definitions for sure but they are products of this process). Christology to me is understood through prayerful navigation. The short answer is that God is Love, and so to be the existence of Love in the world is to be God and it is to be well. To be Love in the world is to do the will of the Father who is love. It is to love and be loved by the father.

@technicallydifficult @NotAFemboy @apophis @georgia it’s worth noting that we get “God is love” from john who also gave us a lot of the basis for christology and trinitarianism in the start of his gospel account

@lizzie @technicallydifficult @NotAFemboy @georgia still thinking about your "stuck in a system where god is a thing that exists" framing the other day and how i'd never really left that world where the only things are things that are

@apophis @NotAFemboy @georgia @technicallydifficult when lillian was pseudo-dionysius posting i was kind of uncomfortable with the ideas presented and though i still havent gotten around to reading on divine names, a lot of what lillian picked up from it has had an impact on me

@apophis @NotAFemboy @georgia @technicallydifficult tbh i still kinda use the language of nothing is real except God and God isn’t real interchangeably. im getting at the same idea with both.
