Watched a video on Catholicism. It's like islam with statues, and God is a plural system. Wild man. It's almost the same.

@fiore like, practically speaking, the practices of catholics and sunni muslims are super similar. heaven, hell, repentance, modesty, prayers, etc are all very similar in content. I'd say if monotheistic religions were ramen flavors, sunni islam is oriental, Catholicism is chicken, shi'a is a beef cup noodle, and protestantism is hamburger helper stroganoff.

@fiore Sunni are theologically close to traditional non-protestant forms of christianity, though the practices of Shi'as is closer. But Shi'a theology is similar to calvanism. But shi'a hate sunni. Even though most sunni don't hate shia, I get it tho. cause like, shia are rude af. Lady Aisha lives rent free in their heads.

@apophis @fiore Yeah, it has to be political. Because frankly, if someone considers Mormons to be a type of christian, then Muslims count by the same criteria. Like, Bible + other book is still the same basic religion. Same God, same prophets, different interpretation, and then just different understanding of who the paraclete is. Muslims say it's Muhammad, Christians say it's the Holy Spirit, Mormons think it's Moroni (who game them the Book of Mormon).

@fiore @apophis lol... yeah. js, because like, the reason they get persecuted tho, is probably because christians don't want to let them call themselves christian, because if they do, then muslims are also christians. It's the same set of things that make it different. (the specifics are different, but it's still a Jesus-heavy monotheistic religion with a post-jesus prophet and its own extra book of scriptures delivered to said extra prophet by an angel.)

“There is but a single trait that distinguishes man from the natural world: vision— to place our minds in the future, to free ourselves from the moment. Without it, we are at the mercy of fate. “Man’s advancement is measured by his grasp of the future— his resistance to chaos and uncertainty. This is made possible only by the mightiest weapon of all— “Science: our candle in the dark. Without it we shrink from the blackness of the unknown, retreating to the false comfort of ignorance. Without it we rot from within, becoming shadows of our former selves. “And so, we must ask ourselves: what are we willing to sacrifice? How far will we go if it means lighting the way?”– Kaito Kusanagi, from the comic Dark Science, in a speech recorded 20-ish years before the comic’s main plot unfolds.

@fiore @apophis As far as I'm concerned, Islam is a Christian sect. Though I know it developed from Hanifism, the religion of the followers of Abraham, and it just so happens that Hanifs of that era believed that Jesus was the Messiah. If Jesus is from the Israelite religion, then Muhammad is from the Arab Monotheistic religion Hanifism. His grandfather Abdul-Muttalib was a Hanif. And that's who raised him after his parents died. However, since Hanifs recognized the Messiah and accepted him, they became a flavor of Christianity. Like how Israelites became Ebionite Christians. Arabs became Hanifi Christians. It wasn't the Greek or Roman variety. It was it's own thing. And they had their own traditions passed down concerning their own prophets (Salih and Idris for example), and Muslims call Jesus Isa like the Ebionites in Syria did. Isa is the East Aramaic spelling common in the 4th-6th centuries among Ebionites in that region. And Ebionite Christianity is basically Islam with slight fiqh differences and one less prophet. (judaism didn't really exist until the late 1st century, and Jesus wasn't Judean, he was Nazarean. There were 3 Israelite religio-ethnic groups in Palestina at the time. Nazareans, Samaritains, and Judeans. Judeans became Jews at a later date. Samaratains still exist in Nablus, Palestine. This is the same sort of situation. As with everything else, Jews wanna claim shit that aint theirs. Jesus wasn't Jewish. Jews didn't exist yet.)

@fiore @jorgaborg @apophis I loved Islam. If I wasn't kicked out, I never would have questioned the theology and become an atheist. I would have been a solo believer if the theology was internally logical. But I did tassawuf, (introspective quran study), and that actually hit my imaan like a truck and yeeted me into atheism. Because Islam is THE most logical religion, and STILL is inconsistent and unreasonable. But I'm not saying that there is definately no god, just that Islam ain't it for the right religion. You wanna know how far I got? The absolute nightmare fuel in Surah Ya-Sin compared to Surah al-Fatiha ayah 1. Ar-Rahman and Jahannem are incompatible ideas. You literally can't call The Most Merciful the one who created An-Nar, because the Most Merciful would not be compatible with the concept of creating it.
