       Apparently some old computers encoded #PCM samples as *unsigned* integers.Why in the world would you represent PCM samples as unsigned?#audio #retrocomputing

       @gloriouscowThose horrible things, interrupts were turned off when the floppies were active, so using one as a BBS the clock could be off by and hour a day and FidoNet 's scheduler off and it made phone calls at crazy times. I think it lost serial characters too. Horrible thing. But they were cheep! @nazokiyoubinbou @argv_minus_one

       @gloriouscowNot only... A huge issue was maintaining a steady data rate to the dac. Any jitter is immediately audible. The lack of hardware support is hard to imagine today.  @nazokiyoubinbou @argv_minus_one
