The more I catch up with Medalist the more I'm worried about season two. The trannylation has been atrocious, and often outright distracting from the animation and story, making me guess what a character actually said. This /a/non is right. A better sub group must come along if we gaijin who have deknai'd the Japanese language want a good experience for the next season, as Crunchyroll-Funimation cannot stop vomiting everywhere in our glorious Japanese media space.Below is an example. Seriously? A dead normalfaggot Facebook meme from 2007? That is not what Tsukasa said, you bimbos. You make him look like a Western Millennial chump trying to use dead internet humor to appeal to a Japanese Alpha kid who doesn't even use the internet that much. The officially licensed manga translator from Kodansha got it right (I believe truncating "championship" to "this" is fine due to space concerns). That is how bad this TV trannylation is.

Here is another example, not even thirty seconds after. Why is a niche English idiom from 19th century Vaudeville shows, which is often spoken in a more subdued manner in English media and in real life, being used for a very simple, brute, and high intensity Japanese phrase that can exchanged exact word-for-word to English? This isn't the chance to write whatever the trannylator/locolizer wants because, "This phrase would sounds cute and totally like real show, tee hee."Gifford at Kodansha, again, does the superior job.If I had to guess, Madeleine Morris, who is part of the Crunchyroll-Funimation cabal and wrote the dub script for this show, worked with the other two women (assuming they are women) and butchered Tsukasa's line because she herself came from theater, according to online sources, one of the most likely contextual places you would hear that idiom.

@SuperSnekFriend the "spice" that troonslators add is faulty from the beginning since japanese are more serious and formal unlike the weed huffing nigger loving rainbow colored city dwelling troglodytes

@SuperSnekFriend It's difficult but anime isn't exactly "difficult" or normal Japanese for that matter.

@SuperSnekFriend thats rightLolis on ice season 2 starts on the 23rdi think the solution is to grab the original jp script (https://kitsunekko.net/dirlist.php?dir=subtitles%2Fjapanese%2FMedalist%2F) and having genAI translate it It has produced some promising results and can even make out context very well

@Vidmastereon @SuperSnekFriend Finally, I can copy-paste Tomino's weird dialogue into jisho without having to spend fifteen minutes looping over the same three seconds of audio and trying to guess what the VA is really saying. Thank you!

@SuperSnekFriend I read the manga and there's not much more to see after Hikaru's legendary choreagraphy in season one. The standard sports anime themes are good, but unresolved and very sour in current arc.
