@mirq I think instance mutes are the better option but I'm not running a single user instance either. My only gripe is that muting whole instances can cut whole sections of threads from view, so I don't really do it unless a particularly bad instance. Poast is far from the worst behaved ones, a lot of annoying guys come from there but there's a few I don't mind. Some adjacent instances (you know who) are just complete fed shit where I've never seen a post coming from there that's worth reading.

@sicp i currently only reject posts from NCD and the initial plan was to keep it that way. Poast is huge, and has plenty of nice people. @prettygood @sicp BasedI can and did cope with people while on fse but here where I don't really need to worry about my preferences trampling on the rights (for lack of a better word) of others, I don't feel the need to. Why expose myself to people I genuinely think should be spit on? If I was running a multi user instance, my principles would keep me from taking drastic measures, as I don't believe that my preferences should be pushed into others. Hope I'm making sense haha

@shibao @sicp @mirq in my defense I do a hell of a lot more than pleroma on this server. All my own personal services and a few public ones. Plus the $5/mo for object storage is dual purpose as well. It sounds steep but I ride this VM really hard.

@mirq ran a single user instance for some time and never reached the point where I considered defederating poast. But I did silence and block a couple of accounts because of course I don't want to see nazi shit in any of my timelines

@sunbeam_rider it was down to bad timing. I was having a bad day and I was getting dogpiled by tards. When I noticed that literally all of them were poasties, the answer seemed clear. I'll revisit later, potentially. I didn't defed them the last time I had a single user instance. I'd prefer not to defed them this time.

@mirq yeah I've seen that. Some guy on a not too niche instance making a vaguely left-leaning political post and a bunch of poast retards dogpiling on em and chances are the guy in question can't even see their replies because their instance admin was sensible enough to defederate... You know what... Yeah think on it.

oh I had a semester like that. I had one Wednesday and I think it was like 10am ~ 8pm with zero gaps, and I had to make it from one side of campus to the other for two of those, so I'd ride my bike. One was a 3 hour/once a week evening class. No breaks, except for the standard 5min between classes.
