@Peaceandprosperity I’m probably not the best person to ask, as I carry a (near) full size handgun without too much discomfort. If you’re specifically after a compact 9mm, the most common recommendations will likely be the Sig P365 or the M&P Shield.Would you consider a pocket gun? (Revolver, lower ammo capacity, smaller, lighter, arguably safer)

@Peaceandprosperity @eriner For reliability and light weight this is the big winner and you can add a red dot.https://ruger.com/products/lcr/overview.html?r=y

@RoboftheVolcano @Peaceandprosperity ha, the LCR is specifically what I was going to recommend if there isn’t an issue with revolvers. I wouldn’t recommend a red dot, but the LCR is a great gun.

@eriner I would absolutely consider a revolver. It's for self defense, not home defense and if I can't defend myself with 6 shots, I deserve what is coming for me.But now that I've been putting some thought into it, I might want something that can stop a big cat. We have Cougars out here and my youngest wants to start hiking. Also, why wouldn't you want a red dot on an LSR?

@Peaceandprosperity The way I see it a compact revolver is the best deep-concealment CQB SELF-defense weapon. Like, if you’re being stuck up by one or two of the usual suspects. You want it compact so you can carry it in an accessible forward pocket, like in a jacket. Odds are you’d fire it from within concealment of the jacket, so an RDS does you no good except to make it bulkier.I carry full size because I have a family to defend, so accuracy at distance matters to me. Were it just me, LCR.

@Peaceandprosperity @Richard @eriner the 938 has a really nice balance and weight for such a small gun.

@Derdnik @Peaceandprosperity @eriner All metal build helps with the control and recoil.

@eriner you make some good points. I would be carrying this almost exclusively when I'm traveling for work, so only need to defend myself. I'm also a trained fighter so if I run out if bullets by eliminating the threats that have guns, the odds are in my favor and there are still one or two dumfucks to handle, the odds are in my favor.I appreciate the insight.
