one nearby table had a chronically depressed introverted vaguely goth cis woman who'd make generic emo art, lament how generic and emo it was, and talk abt how lauryn hill was the greatest artist of all time. she seemed like a really sweet person, also more curious abt me than i was capable of handling then. for a lil while she dated another guy in class who had a pepe pfp and tried to paint in a traditional japanese style. he changed the pfp after they broke up.

one semester i was in an art group whose other members were all black except for a ginger dude who only showed up on tuesdays and had a gf who dressed up as guilty gear bridget for halloween. he gave me a high five after learning i used krita and an icebreaker after learning yume nikki was one of my favorite games. he bitched about being forced into catholic studies and told the same few life stories repeatedly as if we hadn't already heard two weeks ago: of meeting charli xcx and taking goofy pictures with her, of his mom beating a gopher to a bloody pulp with a shovel, and of a little autistic homeschooled kid who thought he wasnt white cuz of his freckles and cried upon learning the truth.

i tried a music class and the prof started off the semester revealing that he had a rare nerve disease and almost died in front of class the prior semester, they had to call medics to haul his unconscious ass out. after i learned he was an avant garde composer, talked to him abt george crumb (who id heard a free public concert from years before), and learned that prof had gone drinking with him all the time before he died. i could tell he immediately liked me a lot more than everyone else in class after that, from behavior changes to just straight up telling me "yeah u can ignore all the assignment rules do whatever u want i trust u" multiple times. i played him an unfinished song i whipped up years ago and he approvingly called it "industrial asian folk punk". i still dont know how accurate that is.other life stories of his included trying to be the next nirvana when he was young and playing piano for billy joel out of pure chance. he seems a lil iffy on trans issues judging by how the wendy carlos part of music history went, and his reaction to lauren bousfield (i played a song by her for production study once) but generally very chill.

i remember after that show very vividly. at a cold pitch black night bus stop, to my left there were two dudes. one had a red army choir cd, talked abt how the ads for the concert jumpscared him cuz their face was lit green and made him think of shrek, and randomly started rapping a verse from kendrick lamar how much a dolla cost to the other dude. to my right there was a little lady of ambiguous age playing taylor swift songs out loud on her phone. we all sat like that for a long time till the bus came.

the one drawing class i tried was taught by a very young professor who was born blind in one eye. her own art was deeply mid but she was very enthusiastic and downright motherly and referenced top meme of 2023 grimace shake every single fucking class. i wish i remember some of the artists she tapped us into. she showed us how to access a hidden section of her friend's clean professional squarespace site that was netart and i cant remember how to get back to it now that im super into that shit.

my last english prof looked like an american harry du bois and sorta acted like one too. on the first day he dropped his disco-looking coat to reveal his many arm tattoos inspired by his favorite books, and to talk about how a single negative rateyourprofessor review would leave him awake at night.he grew up in rural ohio and used to say the n word till he joined the military, got assigned to an otherwise all black regiment outta chance, and ended up the best man at one of their weddings after. also shook hands with obama once lolhe was by far the most (openly) woke person i encoutered. brought up a trans woman he was friends with and her state's new anti-hrt shit when nazi germany history came up. after october 7th he immediatly started tryna covertly redpill us abt palestine without getting fired, among other things.that semester, id been having wrist issues and wore a brace mostly tucked under my coat and sweater. he was the only one in the entire building who noticed and asked if id need help with writing in class or anything. not even the real hand shit like drawing class and art club said anything. that was nice.his class was my first school shooter drill. he wrote that on the billboard with a little sad emoji. he taught how we'd barricade the door, a lady joked abt her fat protecting her from a window jump, he didnt really laugh.unlike all prior english education, i actually improved at writing with him. i couldnt just get 100% by freestyling for 2 hours before the deadline. his favorite poem was wild geese mary oliver. he's dropped multiple bizzarely mid alt-country and folk albums. he'd do cartoon impressions, most often to startle me, and he'd make strange comments abt my "soft voice." there were a couple of moments i think he mighta been onto me being closeted trans. i briefly considered using that throughout the end of an essay, chickened out, and then his only criticism of the end result was something that woulda been fixed if id gone for it.i wish i was friends with him.

one guy in that class was raised by immigrants from thailand (i believe?) and was a super misogynist hustler type, just like all the other most charismatic people ive ever met. he got me to come check out the psychology club, which consisted of: - an autistic guy who stopped using they/them pronouns when he got a girlfriend, and wore a punk battle vest with mostly emo bands and "in this house we believe love is love" liberal yard sign type shit.- an even more autistic guy who regularly took at least 5 minutes to articulate various conspiratorial beliefs pertaining to covid and the chinese- the charismatic misogynist hustler- the leader, a competent woman- the leader of the black and latino club, who was helping this club's leader. she found out about my sign, declared that we were astrological soulmates, and immediately got much more interested in me. almost a year after this, i set foot on campus for a ged test and she jumped me at the bus stop and excitedly asked me all sorts of questions and i didnt even remember who she was till after i fought her off lmao. also grilled me abt not being born in america after i said i related to something she said abt being born in jamaica, and tried to convince me to watch the tv show "supernatural".- a professor who was helping the club as well. a sweet middle aged woman who was a black veil brides fan and had a long convo with the vest guy abt concerts after spotting the emo bands.the club spent most of its time tryna get money to do things with. my main takeaway from it's that I feel really bad for the women for getting stuck with two guys more autistic than me and the hustler and having to deal with all the bullshit they say. at one point the leader gave a presentation abt how the field's been mishandling everything with women from the ground up and that she wanted to focus her research on that and the hustler just pipes up with the most braindead "but what about men? why wont u research men?" shit like holy goldfish memory
