I've got a #Kinesis #Advantage2LF #keyboard. I switched PCB to the #kinT alternative using a #Teensy controller in 2021-02 to get #QMK firmware:https://github.com/kinx-project/kintSince a few weeks, I face issues: ESC switched its position with the ` character. I "fixed" that by swapping their definitions in the keymap.c file & re-flashing. Weird but that worked.Since a few days, they were swapped again. Swapped them back + flashed to their original definition position. Fixed. However, there's another issue I can't fix: the Alt-keys are behaving erratic. See their position on https://karl-voit.at/2021/05/23/advantage2-modifications/The left one is not doing anything at all. https://keyboard-tester.com/ doesn't show anything when they are pressed. I don't know if this is OK for that kind of modifier. The right Alt key is working sometimes. Both were mapped to KC_LALT. I tried to flash both with KC_RALT which didn't change anything.Could it be that the Teensy controller got faulty?Any other ideas?

@publicvoit "I've just got" or "I'm using since the olden days"?

I temporarily mapped the key "L" to the two Alt-positions and this worked. So the switches aren't dead themselves.

@publicvoit I mean... That's some pretty good debugging to narrow it down... Can you try a lower level HID tool (I use hid-tools python package on Linux to get `hid-recorder` for this purpose, but not sure if that works on Windows) to 100% confirm the keyboard isn't sending any reports for Alt?If not, does your QMK keymap have any user/processing callbacks that are trying to do modifier smarts and are accidentally swallowing the modifier press?

@petejohanson Debian Trixie is running here. The thing is that the QMK config did not change in the meantime. Yes, I do some stuff with home row modifiers as well lately. Up until recently, this did work out fine."sudo apt-cache search hid-tool" did not yield any entry. I cloned https://pypi.org/project/hid-tools/ but I'm too stupid to run "uv run ./hid-recorder" with sudo. I guess the issue is that uv isn't installed system-wide. Without uv, dependencies fail. The usual Python hell.

@publicvoit no pythonista here, but I usually just install hid-tools with --user and it doesn't require root to do so.I'd guess your HRM stuff is somehow amiss, I'm curious if you temporarily disable that if things work for your alt key?

@publicvoit> ESC switched its position with the ` character. I "fixed" that by swapping their definitions in the keymap.c file & re-flashing.That is weird indeed. From your description, this is stable for days then suddenly flips then again stable for days. Not what I would expect from a FW bug.Is there a hardware switch somewhere that influences behavior? Solder jumper on new board? Wackelkontakt?#Kinesis #Advantage2LF #keyboard #kinT #Teensy #QMK

@xro No jumper on the board as I know of. 😔 It's really a nasty issue. So far, I know that the issue moves with the mapping. So it's not related to the physical switch (position).
