@judgedread Yeah, at a certain point these clowns simply cannot put their egos aside and submit to a tough-but-fair editor that is generous with the red pen. Every precious word is sancrosanct. King and Rowling also had this issue when they hit the big leagues.

@TrevorGoodchild The dropoff in quality from Harry Potter book three to seven is extreme. However in King's case you have both lack of editorial control and the result of decades of coke and alcohol abuse. He hasn't been able to devise a tight plot since The Dead Zone.

@TrevorGoodchild Doctor Sleep is the most recent King book I read. He still has a knack for characters and tone. The True Knot energy vampires are a great concept. But his Mary Sue girl with the shine is so overpowered that even a coven of vampires never stood a chance once they engaged with her. She shatters the bones of the most powerful of them with a thought.

@judgedread 'The Little Sisters of Eluria' is a novella set in the Dark Tower world that is worth a read. I haven't been able to tolerate any of his later work after wasting a few hours on 'Desperation'. Tak was an interesting concept that rapidly devolved into a boring 'for teh evulz' villain.

@TizzoHeavy Original Star Wars script was doctored by Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz, co-writers of American Graffiti. Harrison Ford and Alec Guinness also rewrote some of their own lines. Have not heard of Fisher doing much on the OG trilogy, though I would not be surprised if she did.
