@SirGeekHeretic @MarkQuestion No rover on that mission.I'll look into the footprints, but I imagine they are still too small at that resolution.

@Meachamus_Prime @SirGeekHeretic ah yes, ok, rover didn't show up until Apollo 15. Those do look like boot prints there. Shouldn't there be a lot more than that tho? That just looks like someone walked past the lander one time. How can you tell that's the flag?

@MarkQuestion @SirGeekHeretic I don't know if they did anything else extravehicular other than set up some experiments and the flag and hit a golf ball. They can't get far from the lander on foot, but this was the first attempt, too, so they weren't 100% on oxygen usage rates. You can tell it's the flag by comparing the shadow of the lander to that shadow and noting that it is the shape of a shadow that would be cast by a flag.

@Meachamus_Prime @SirGeekHeretic ok I can see the flag shadow you're talking about. Still, looks to me there should be far more boot prints near the lander, even for the minimal activity you've mentioned.

@MarkQuestion @SirGeekHeretic Found an overview of the lunar surface mission and it looks like it was 3 basic experiments and 3 soil samples. That and the flag and plaque would probably be covered by the tracks found in that image. It focused primarily on proving to the Soviets that we had touched down and returned before the world. The laser mirror alone would have been plenty, but the soil samples clenched it. The follow on missions had the bulk of the experiments.https://an.rsl.wustl.edu/apollo/data/userguide/index.html?apollo_11_overview.htm

@Meachamus_Prime @SirGeekHeretic still should be more foot traffic for all that, in my opinion. The Soviets put mirrors up there too, with unmanned missions.

@MarkQuestion @SirGeekHeretic The other thing to keep in mind is that the only traffic we are seeing is after they had learned to hop around for movement. The resolution is too low for individual foot prints which is why there is no obvious trail going to the flag.

@MarkQuestion @SirGeekHeretic Lost track of this conversation 2 months ago.The lunar lander hulls were surprisingly delicate. I expect they would hop over to the landing site and then walk up to the ladder.

@Meachamus_Prime @SirGeekHeretic oh I thought you gave up on me 😆 so, if that's the case, we could expect MORE footprints nearest to the site, right?

@MarkQuestion @SirGeekHeretic Yeah. Watch for that if any higher resolution photos come out. I would expect a foot trail to the flag and to the plaque and a lot of foot traffic around the lander.
