Memories and Ink fades, links rot, collections cycle, and censors edit and rewrite. Building archives, even if only in private, is both a defensive and optimistic act.Make copies of artifacts and please write about them excruciating detail, document from weird angles, note the obvious, and the absurd.Presuppose a future where someone else wants to know that artifact as you know it.No one person, or org, can hold back the fog of time forever, but consider giving history a helping hand.

Both my artistic and technical interests have resulted in a renewed appreciation for both niche contemporary documentation and the historical archives that they become. And also a firm belief that there is nowhere near enough writing or drawing or pictures on any subject. Think back 10-20 years ago, pick any mundate aspect of your life, fully inspect it in your mind and attempt to determine how it came to be exactly that way, what forces led to that, where did they go?And document it.

I also feel that this is our only viable defense against the double impact of the generative AI onslaught i.e. the mass pollution, and the systematic DoS, of research sources.I fear the impact of both will only worsen with each passing month.Because of that, the best time to do that documentation was decades ago, the second best time was yesterday, the next best time is now.

@sarahjamielewis It's a funny thing. I grew up half in libraries and half in smoky bars. 'Twas an interesting childhood.I originally liked the internet because it was possible to find better resources, faster than in the libraries. Now I find myself drifting back towards the libraries as the internet becomes clogged up with AI litter. Litter that slows down research to a Los Angeles freeway crawl. It's refreshing to go to a place where everything was actually written by real people.
