@mangeurdenuage @lebronjames75 >Paris syndrome (in Japanese: パリ症候群, Pari shōkōgun) is a sense of extreme disappointment exhibited by some individuals when visiting Paris, who feel that the city does not live up to their expectations. The condition is commonly viewed as a severe form of culture shock. The cluster of psychiatric symptoms has been particularly noted among Japanese tourists, perhaps due to the way in which Paris has been idealized in Japanese culture.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome

@heavens_feel @mangeurdenuage @lebronjames75 when I saw America (I think it was NYC) depicted in the second season of Dragon Maid I couldn't help but think the same dynamic applies here. Japan tends to admire the West, different places for different reasons. And how could they not for it was the West that ended Japan's isolation, and with its modern progress made Japan hurry to enter the 20th century proper. The one fascinating yet crucial difference between the West and Japan remains that Japan only imported, adapted, and interpreted the what and the how (science, tech, systems), but never really the rotten why (philosophical materialism with its nihilist tentacles) at least not in the mainstream, which remained guided by a shinto-buddhist operating system. That doesn't leave Japan pure and untainted, as the imported systems were meant to reduce men to numbers, not to develop and elevate man to heaven. In addition, after the loss in WW2 Japan was put into quasi governance of the US, which quickly introduced liberal progressive laws that forever changed the concept of family, pushing the Japanese into a mode of default atomization for the sake of women's rights. Cultural Marxism also has seen a significantly lower impact and success in Japan, where the living emperor (an embodiment of ancient order, tradition, identity, and religion) still enjoys a level of popular support that European royalty cannot even dare to dream of.

@heavens_feel @lebronjames75 @mangeurdenuage case in point, Japanese have no issue saying Merry Christmas for... Christmas. Understanding it not only as part of Western identity, but by now also as part of their own (albeit with a different meaning). Wokistani Localizers on the other hand don't want anything to do with something so rooted in sacred tradition (the past is the enemy) that aims to elevate man. In their Marxist programming only erasure of the thing can be considered good. (Uma Musume was the anime)Tusky_1767348909670_8KGZCVDM9L.png
