Maybe I should have been an evil hacker. Or worked on wall st.But maybe I would feel too much guilt. Do you ever regret not going for a life of crimes?

@futurebird No, but when I read a story years ago about a guy making a counterfeit postage stamp from his own photo and mailing a letter to a friend using it, I was tempted to try it myself.

@futurebird I realized I"d leave my keys at the scene of the crime, or the equivalent. So in my novel, the criminal group has 3 priorities: DO NOT GET CAUGHT.... but oh, when you do, HAVE A REALLY GOOD STORY!!!!..... and then have *another* really good story underneath... becaues first principal is ASSUME YOU"RE GOING TO GET CAUGHT and plan accordingly. Especially w/ things like hacking ... use the bank information for charities. Or taking over empty businesses, set off the alarm 10 tmes when the wind is coming hard from the west, or as many times asit takes for them not to check, then... change the locks...

@futurebirdI've always known that I am devious enough to have made a great criminal mastermind, but I made different choices and have never regretted it.

@futurebird I sometimes am tempted by the ideas for outlawing encryption, just so I can appear as a mysterious shrouded figure and whisper "I possess the secret knowledge"

@futurebird No. As well as any guilt there is the stress of both of getting caught and what other criminals might do and generally having to deal with criminals and trust them much of the time. Iāve also been very fortunate to be in a comfortable position without crime.

@futurebird Years ago, I was on a walk along Seattleās Lake Union at lunchtime, a young man in slacks and a white polo shirt. A woman pulled up in a really nice Mercedes, handed me her keys, and headed towards a nearby restaurant.Big decision moment. I called her back, and we had a good laugh.

@futurebird Used to be a good hacker working for Wall Street, but I felt guilt, so I changed all that.
