@lanodan it feels like it's gotten harder in the US at least to like go to a store that just has shit there that you can buy. like even the big box stores like Walmart and Target tend to have the shelves all mostly empty. it's fucking ridiculous. a lot of the time I can't find shit without having to buy it on Amazon even when usually I'd rather just get it from a place the same day and not have to wait a few days for it to get shipped

@nyx Yeah, thankfully over here there's a bunch of shops of various sizes including open marketplaces.Also luckily there's a small pro-oriented electronic parts shop in the area so for oddball hardware I can even get it locally (which is nice because then you can check the part before buying it).

@nyx @lanodan its been ass watching actually useful stores vanish. we used to have radioshack, woodcraft, aaron brothers, they all shut down. aaron brothers was bought and gutted by michaels, which despite being an art store, has been carrying actual art supplies less and less. [local music store] shut down leaving only guitar center, which sells trash for lots of money and is also on its way out. there is nowhere i can go to find anything like hookup wire narrower than anything that would be used to do the electrical of a house. i cant go to the computer store and find a trackball. i cant go to target and find glasses retainers. the only linseed oil carried in any hardware store is full of cobalt so isnt food safe. no one has paracord lighter than 275. no one has fucking carabiners. only my very local (goated btw) gardening store has rigging clamps and thimbles. dont get me started on metric hardware. wtf !!
