@Zergling_man How do I figure that though? All I see is that the images are slow as shit but as soon as I turn on a VPN everything becomes instant.

@munir Do tests from every angle you can, especially testing ipv6 vs ipv4.Routing nodes tend to have vaguely-sensible names so you can often get a decent picture of what's going on even from one test.

@munir -m 255 is a useful flag, otherwise it gives up after 30 hops. Usually, 30 is enough for anything that's not broken, but try traceroute -m 255 bad.horse.

@munir That's the easy case; whatever hop you're stuck on (last IP) is failing to forward you.Double-check that the target IP is the same in both/all cases, for ages I had an issue with my VPS where the company had rolled the ip (rolled their whole block IIRC) and failed to notify me, so I could only access it whenever ipv6 worked (so, hotels in Tokyo).

@munir (Then they rolled the block again, and so I cancelled.)

@munir Well I say "easy case" but it may well be that you shouldn't have been led to that node at all. This is why I mentioned vaguely-sensible names: If you know where the VPS is you can make some educated guesses about the route you should be taking, and see if it looks correct.I assume that you can get maps of global routing that you could compare against for an even better idea, but I've never managed to. (I think I have tried once.)

@Zergling_man So without VPN, it's 14 hops and 15% packet loss at lots of hops.with VPN set to germnay, it's 4 hops, 0% packet loss
