I'm interested in book suggestions for the new year. (Fiction & nonfiction!)What's something that you would save if all other writing was to be lost to time? What's something new that you think really stands out? What series you would love to read all over again with a fresh look?

@gabriel — I’ve listened to lots of audiobooks the last few years and this was by far my favorite. So much so, I even bought a physical copy.

My favorite fiction is totally biased NYC based time travel and the buildings in the story are still here as well as the skyline from Central Park and iconic central part of the book.. The Dakota.. made famous when John Lennon was killed but that was many years after Jack Finney wrote Time and Again about a man who travels from 1970s New York City to 1882 as part of a DoD project.. enough reality to tempt you to think maybe time travel could be a portal.. very fun but again very biased New Yorker connection to NYC landmarks!! My best suggestion for nonfiction - Ida Tarbell's History of Standard Oil - 1904 edition.. this has been the same since 2000 when it was rumored to be on CIA burn list (a practice officially denied) but I got print editions on the rumor... it's the best way to have a foundational understanding of how our government was captured & how evil non profits the biggest fraud in history.. short chapters easy read don't be intimidated by the length it was published as a magazine series. https://web.archive.org/web/20050216094002/http://www.history.rochester.edu/fuels/tarbell/MAIN.HTM

Thanks for mentioning Finney. For the last couple of months I've been trying to remember the name of that book: I read it about 20 years ago at a time when I had to give books away to save space. I enjoyed it a lot.Finney portrays the past with enthusiastic people, which actually might not be so far-fetched when I compare today with the 1980s, say. That's probably why the book has been playing on my mind.
