Large family on a table at Xmas.A 18 year old woman who recently joined University seriously tells us that she can't imagine how to set an alarm clock without #Siri. No, it wasn't metaphorical or something like that. She definitely has no clue how this could be accomplished without using Siri on her #iPhone. As if she's proud of this.ππ€¦#PIM #education #cloud #Apple #assistants

AI brainrot... literally. I manually set my alarms every day.

@publicvoit Well, Apple UI design isn't what it once was (if it ever was that great), as I've never used an iPhone I'd have to look around some time too (but then I'd not use Siri either)

@publicvoit Let me guess, she is also not able to read a non-digital watch?

@gisiger Well, yes, this would have been a very valid thing to ask back. π

@publicvoit To be fair, Siri is the simplest way to set an alarm, and there is no reason to seek out a less simple approach.

@Sumocat First, this reasoning is only valid when your risk management puts simplicity above privacy and other values.Second, that was not the point. The point was, that she has no ability to do it at all without Siri. Therefore, we may need a new word beneath #enshittification. Maybe #enstupidication? π€

@publicvoit First, Siri requests for on-device actions are handled on-device.Second, so what if she can only use Siri to set alarms? Have you ever watched normal people use their phones? Flipping through pages of icons? Unlocking to find their camera app? Most non-techies have no ability to use their phones beyond what they need. At least she found the fastest way.

@Sumocat Sorry, you're ignoring too many things, I realize. (On-device, if it is correct which you can't check for closed source SW, also doesn't help against voice fingerprinting and similar threats.)I'm a privacy aware person and we won't agree here, as it seems. πAnd as a PIM expert, I'm puzzled about your rationale on how to use tech. π€·But there's no need to agree here, YMMV.
