Getting a new phone for the holidays doesn’t mean giving up Signal message history. Restore old messages on a new phone using Signal Secure Backups or device-to-device transfer. https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/10074659364122-Backups-and-Device-Transfers-on-Signal

For real, salty person..If those are the kind you have on Signal, it makes me another point to discourage using it!While the source was from GitHub???Luna.. I make you an app if you need to, but you hatefulYou stoopid...

@zer0unplanned @signalapp your response used perfect english when in all the other posts ive seen from you you use some amount of broken English. google doesn't show any part of the text as being copy pasted from another source, so did you or did you not use an llm to write that post?

@signalapp How can that be secure if it's device to device?I'm gonna lay it out Sir, I love you very much and your app. But I use Session instead, yes a fork of you but there I just need my public key usuable on all devices. And without Telemetry no MetaData nor email or tel nr.

@zer0unplanned @signalapp Doesn't Session remove several very important security features & rely on a cryptocurrency blockchain to function? How is copying an encrypted file from one device over an encrypted connection to another device insecure? Are you aware that your messages move from device to device (sender to recipient) regardless? If data moving between devices is the issue for you, then send your messages by writing on paper & handing it directly to the recipient instead. You're right about the phone number requirement though. It's ridiculous that Signal still requires a phone number to sign up in 2025.

@jackemled @signalapp Hi, you are right about the data transfer. Copying data from Signal to another device is safe only when using official methods.Session does not remove several very important security features; rather, it makes deliberate trade-offs to prioritize anonymity and decentralization over certain features found in centralized systems like Signal. While the Session Protocol, a modified version of the Signal protocol, has not yet fully implemented Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS)Session does rely on the Oxen cryptocurrency blockchain to function, but this reliance is structural and serves a specific purpose: to ensure decentralization and Sybil resistance. The network uses a system of Service Nodes that must stake 15,000 $OXEN to participate, creating a financial barrier that makes large-scale attacks prohibitively expensive. This market-based model incentivizes node operators and strengthens network security by preventing malicious actors from easily flooding the network with fake nodes. While critics express concern about the dependency on a cryptocurrency’s economic stability, this model is designed to promote long-term sustainability and decentralization, distinguishing Session from volunteer-driven networks like Tor. encrypted files in Session are stored temporarily on a centralized server but are fully encrypted with a key that only the sender and recipient possess. The server cannot decrypt or interpret the file content because it does not hold the decryption key. This ensures that even if the file is copied or accessed by unauthorized parties, it remains unreadable without the key. The temporary storage is necessary to avoid overburdening the decentralized Service Node network, especially for large files, but privacy is preserved through end-to-end encryption.I hope this clarifies your question.many sources online.Have a good day Luna

google, by virtue of controlling the operating system, has access to your plaintext messages as you type them in, and as they get displayed, which is much worse than the notification system's getting to them while encrypted. if you choose to believe it gives up the more interesting access it has, why wouldn't you believe it will also refrain from peeking at the useless cyphertext?CC: @light@noc.social @signalapp@mastodon.world
