@druid the liberal war on Christmas started far earlier than anyone thinks…

@druid if Christians can’t outgrow Pagan holidays then Space-NATO shouldn’t outgrow Christmas ones! But it would be strange to celebrate Midwinter in space.. perhaps the date is different on every planet? Much to ponder

@hidden @druid > war on ChristmasMore like distaste for Abrahamic superstition being forced down everyone's throat. Calling it a "war" is just the typical hystrionic compensatory narcissism we've all come to expect of Abrahamic superstitions ("Oh woe is me! <melodramatic fainting gesture> The world has rejected our authoritarian One-True-Way'ism! We are victimised, martyrs!! <flops onto floor pretending to be dead>).

@hidden @druid Since Pagans tend to practice bioregionalism (eg. Australian and North American Pagans celebrate opposite Solstices, etc), the chances are that Earth holidays wouldn't have much relevance to space travellers. More than likely Pagan practices would morph into something less pinned to a specific time and place and perhaps be more focused on celestial and elemental expressions of divinity, stages of human life cycle, traditional folk tales/allegories, and so on.

@hidden @druid probably. most people still worship whatever big objects are in their immediate vicinity even if they dont recognize it consciously-- the sun, moon, the weather and seasons etc. i see no reason the positions of distant planets would be at all salient to them when local conditions and light cycles would be so prominent.only exception is islam and praying facing mecca. They would probably all know exactly which constellation earth was, and where it is relative to the time of day. The timing of prayers would certainly follow local schedules though.
