Victorian ants wore six-button black boots: that is *thirty-six* buttons to do up just to get ready to go out. The modern ant loves her sensible trainers, but they are very squeaky.

Honestly if I had to put on that many shoes I might not leave the house most days. Two is more than enough.

@futurebird this is 36 * 6 boots or four or just two? I'm trying to imagine how many they wear. Maybe it depends on how formal the event is?

@futurebird Ants invented velcro shoe closures.

@jmax It would be very hard to make Velcro at that scale... but not impossible I think. Ants could use human Velcro to make necklace clasps.

@futurebird Victorian ants had it easy. Think of the poor Victorian millipedes! It might take them a week to get ready to go for a walk.

@gdinwiddie LOL. For some reason the notion of arthropods having a lot of shoes will never stop amusing me.

@futurebird Then there's the problem of deciding which leg to move first.

@futurebird That's still too many shoelaces that can come undone and trip an unwary ant.
