       December 17: On this day in 1920, Hitler's "National Socialist German Worker's Party" (German initials "NSDAP") acquired the "Völkischer Beobachter" ("Folkish Observer") as its first newspaper. The first issue edited by the NSDAP appeared on Dec. 25.The VB, as it was known, started out as a weekly paper with a circulation of only 8,000. By 1944, it had become a daily publication, with a readership in excess of 1.7 million.The VB published news articles from an NS standpoint, as well as essays, book reviews & interviews. It was known as the official mouthpiece of the Hitler movement.Below: The issue dated Jan. 31, 1933 - the day after Hitler had been named as Chancellor.
