A big shift has occurred in math education 9-12. Schools are moving away from graphing calculators and desmos is replacing them. (Sadly this is driven by the big testing companies, but I don't want to get into that issue.) If desmos is what we are working with now, so I want to know what it can do. desmos has recently added a geometry app: a bad version of geogebra. It's growing.Desmos is mostly... fine. But it's about to be pushed to its limits by wide adoption.Is desmos Turing complete?

@noplasticshower No. In fact I think they have tried to design it so you CAN'T do things like programming... despite having variables and logic. There are some things it can do with lists that are interesting.

@futurebird can you build a Y-combinator?

@noplasticshower Not to get too philosophical ... but what does it mean to have "while()"In desmos if I write f(a)=[a function of a]I can then adjust a on the fly using a slider or by typing values. So that is like a limited "while"Can I hmmm

@futurebird it means you have now introduced the Halting problem. Open vs closed formalism.

@futurebird two features that allow for some general computing:(1) General recursion: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/bibo1pnlir(2) Actions / Ticker: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/2yyrfsa558I'm interested in digging into the "big testing" claim -- I think tests using us lagged our usage by teachers and students and honestly took some persuading. Big focuses for us have been (a) free, (b) intuitive, and (c) accessible, and many of the tests took some serious pressure by teachers saying that handheld calculators were really inequitable to be willing to adopt us.Would love to hear more about features you'd want to see in Desmos! We're always looking to make it better.
