Interesting discussion about the differences between Matrix and #ActivityPub at #SplinterCon . Matrix, unlike ActivityPub, separates the group/room (a social concept) from the server/instance (a technical concept) so you don't choose a server for content or content control reasons, just for technical reasons.

@bortzmeyer I'm surprised at this use of the phrase, "dark forest". It seems to be quite different from the my idea of what Liu Cixin (刘慈欣) means when he uses it in, and as the title of, the second volume of his trilogy, "Remembrance of Earth's Past" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remembrance_of_Earth%27s_Past).

@niallor One more reminder that I should read his books.I assume "dark forest" for a closed social network comes from European medieval fantasies about a small group of outcasts living far from the crowd (and the State) in the forest.
