earlier this morning I hissed loudly during the process of filling out an order for work on the vendor's own website/shopping cart to determine what the shipping and tax would be... then have to go and manually enter each line into the company's ordering system to have it generate and send off a PO to the vendor!I immediately thought, wow, there should be a Standard* XML format or whatever for transferring invoices since they all pretty much do the same thing and oh wait* xkcd 927'd!

nope nope the world cannot ever win that one. I will just continue to be amused at the idea of exactly how much the company has paid me for the mind numbing task of manually populating a purchase order in its absolutely wretched web interface that makes me feel like an old green screen terminal with needlessly baroque cursor key navigation would be a MAJOR IMPROVEMENT

and by needlessly baroque I mean one of those DOS things where a fairly nicely built looking set of forms and UI elements (dialog boxes, buttons, checkboxes, drop down boxes/menus, radio buttons...) are implemented using ASCII text and box-drawing characters, and it looks like it should also support mouse input buuuuut it was written to only work with one particular kind of mouse and seems to only work with it on one specific motherboard, and doesn't support the Microsoft mouse driver

so you're expected to just navigate a seemingly logical layout with cursor and tab keys but in reality because your input method is snapping to different input widgets instead of just moving across screen coordinates, it becomes an inscrutable hellmaze.ok I love the Phabrix video test equipment but the SX and RX series units have an EXTREMELY BAD CASE OF THIS in their menus, which you navigate with a d-pad + center select button

there will be menu options (particularly on the signal generator options page) that are just... orphaned out there in space, floating under an unseen but impenetrable labyrinth. you have to just guess at and hopefully remember what the secret path is to Mario warp between three or four quadrants of a screen with completely illogical navigation. At least I didn't have to wade through that to put a picture of my cat on the test pattern output.
