like with temperature scales I can see how some/most units are "bigger is hotter", and I can see the argument for the opposite scaling (like Delisle) where "bigger is colder"but "inverse" units like this are always confusing to me when it's measuring a size.

like, of course bigger numbers are bigger, they're bigger! that's what "bigger" means! there's a clear and direct connection between sizes of numbers and sizes of physical objects, so it's very strange to me that anyone would ever invert this.

let alone enough that it ended up as an official standard.but I guess like a lot of things, the "polarity" of the unit doesn't really matter, which is why it could be done this way. it just makes the math a little different, and confuses people who don't know

@TerrorBite yeah, but while that's neat trivia: what product is named like this?do they sell flour based on which type of mill ground it? it's just so unexpectedly strange

I was just reminded that 0, 00, 000, and 0000 are DIFFERENT SIZE WIREShow do you do this in the age of Excel and its legendary type issues?

@foone I just remembered that German DIN is guilty of that. With our paper sizes.A0 is 1sqm. But A1 is 0,5 sqm and so forth. And now that is an ISO standard too.

@foone they probably use the 4/0 notation for 0000, and excel gets mad about the divide by zero constantly
