Last weekend we had a family lotery for a Dutch holiday where you get a random name, buy some presents and write a poemWe always do this with the family of my gf but when we are there and her little brother and her gf are there also, it's soo super duper clear how much my gf's mom is more interested in her son..This year I got his name and I bought him a cool game, and guess what. Every year I tell myself, "don't buy expensive shit" since we never get anything of that level in return but I never learn..It doesn't have to be 1-1 but every single year they off soooo damn easy

@stux Couldn't you try to agree on a budget beforehand? Like a range of 20-30 Euros. You could at least get rid of the imbalance.(In our family we have agreed on no gifts at all except for children, and I prefer that – otherwise you always end up with gifts nobody really likes. I do like to make gifts but not on forced occasions. I rather give them when I come across a good one.)
