"Hocheffiziente Verbrenner" ist ein Oxymoron. Verbrennermotoren produzieren vor allem Hitze und wandeln als Nebenprodukt etwa 25% der Energie in Bewegung um. https://www.mdr.de/wissen/naturwissenschaften-technik/die-diskussion-um-hocheffiziente-verbrenner-was-ist-das-100.html

@lalonsander@chaos.social I think these figures contain some very misleading arguments that the electric car lobby wants to push.Because while it is true that gasoline powered cars a large percentage of energy gets turned into heat, this heat is not "wasted energy". The engine needs heat to work and operate at a specific temperature. Also these percentage based arguments very conveniently ignore relative energy usage in joules. One liter of petrol contains about 32 kJ of energy, a full tank (about 50 liters) thus stores about 1.6 MJ (megajoule). The average electric car battery stores 75 kWh or 280 MJ.This means that in terms of raw energy consumption, gasoline cars are in fact much more efficient than electric cars will ever be!But using less energy in joules was never the point, was it?It's about improving the climate. So just stick to arguments about emissions and please don't compare pointless things like "energy efficiency" because it makes no sense.

@SuperDicqYou're off by a factor of 1000. The energy density of petrol is 34 kJ per cubic *centimetre*, or 34 MJ per litre. A full tank thus stores ~1700 MJ.

@eiswuerfeltoaster@chaos.social It seems like I have messed up and misread MJ as kJ, I am sorry. The difference in absolute energy usage is a lot less than I made it out to be. I still think it's an apples to oranges comparison tho.
