This is the latest version of #Rust book, but is this indeed still true?Having a Microsoft account to publish modules to public repo, for real?! 😲 This is even worse than requiring JavaScript to browse it.

@m0xEE It is still true; so far, nobody has found it to be bad enough to add another auth source. As for browsing, you get quite far even without a browser: cargo info even works offline with what is cached.

@chrysn@chaos.socialHa-ha-ha, sure, API still works, I mean the web interface of course — I remember crates.io not displaying any info at all with JS disabled being quite an unpleasant discovery to me. What happened to the approach of gracefully degrading the experience — making it fully functional without JS is probably indeed not worth the effort, but "Please enable JS" stub still feels wrong to me.

@m0xEE @chrysn Design all your shit to work in lynx first, then think about other browsers.

@m0xEE Ouch, it does indeed look terrible that way.I admit that I've built things that just wouldn't show anything else but that, but in my defense, those are not DB frontends, but statically served pages where the next alternative is to run as an application instead.

@m0xEE @chrysn lib.rs is an excellent lightweight alternative for viewing the package registry

Looking at my own screenshot made me realise I must have document fonts enabled. The kind of "t" and "f" that I abhor and… Gee-zus, look at that "g"! What is this — Droid Sans? Open Sans? Disgusting! 😖Does Rust book request this pathetic excuse of a font explicitly instead of using Fira Sans?Sadly, I don't know of a way to blacklist fonts in Firefox, but keep the option to let documents use their own ones and the only way to get rid of Roboto, Noto and Droid seems to be finding those directly responsible for these insults to everyone who likes nice things and selling their internal organs on the black market to the highest bidder! 😡

@Zergling_man@sacred.harpy.faithI swear, one day I'll get a phone I'd be able to use SXMO/SWMO on, and adapt some TUI software, so it would be comfortable to use on a phone.I have a Lenovo Yoda 2-in-1 thingie and I'm experimenting with on-screen keyboard and TUI software on it. TBH even without fundamental redesign it isn't that bad — just bind most complicated shortcuts to gestures and that's about it: how is GUI chat client any better than gomuks or profanity? Chawan the browser can render images using SIXEL, has CSS support and works even on a potato computer. Reading RSS feed with newsboat is comfy enough, adapting mutt for touchscreen would probably be a challenge though 🤔Phones have smaller screens of course, but honestly — I don't think it would be that bad.

@m0xEE I already use lynx in termux on my android thing whenever I get some niggerscript page. Half the time disabling CSS fixes it, but of course that's not easy to do on chromeskins.
