@Tsuki i feel like i've asked this before, but what online resources are helpful for learning japanese? i'm paying for an app called iago to learn basic phrases and vocabulary. it's a visual novel game, it's fun. where do you learn kana and deepen your vocabulary? i can read hiragana, some katakana, but that's about it. also pronouncing "ryo" is still hard tbh but generally my speaking is okay. i'm planning on traveling to japan next summer if i can save enough money

@awyrsad learn your kana and read a grammar guide: https://gohoneko.neocities.org/grammar/taekimthen start reading/ listening as much as you can. Generally my workflow is:Immerse (manga, podcast, VN, etc) > see word I don't know and want to remember > add it to my anki deck. Study the deck every morning and then get back to immersing and adding new cards. for beginners this site has lots of free graded readers starting at level 0. read those until you get bored then switch to an easy manga like yotsubato (kiyohiko azuma) or happiness (oshimi shuuzou).https://tadoku.org/japanese/en/free-books-en/I have plenty more software and resources I could share for more specific stuff like manga, anime, games etc to make immersing with them easier so just @ me if u want those too. don't want to overwhelm you.

@Tsuki thanks, this helps a lot. right now i'm finishing up kana, it's just a matter of getting faster at reading it now. i'm interested mostly in speaking/listening because i'm planning to travel to japan next year. i'll have to consume more japanese content

@awyrsad listening is my weakest skill but I think you just gotta put in the hours and I'll get easier. I listen to this guy on my commute every day, he has a beginner level podcast that might be a good start once you have a decent foundation. https://youtube.com/@nihongoconteppei
