@sun @deadsuperhero mitra at least has some kind of subscription/payment integrated (although it only uses monero afaict, which is hard to spend outside of the crypto world). Maybe x402 will help. People just want to sell their basic stuff, I don't think it needs to be thought of as anarchy vs capitalism or whatever. If a band could sell their albums for USDC on the fediverse in aaddition to bandcamp, that could already be nice for them.

@deadsuperhero @lain I tried it between two mitra servers and it worked great, just running a monero node is tough

@sun @deadsuperhero for me the problem would be more that 'normal' people don't want to run monero nodes and also don't want to have monero. they want to sell their mp3s/comics/games for dollars.

@lain @deadsuperhero the dollar problem is unsolvable imo at best you use an eth stablecoin

@lain @sun @deadsuperhero most people do not use 'dollars' and do not want to sell their wares for them regardless how you define the term

@sun @deadsuperhero you can spend stablecoins from eth or solana with credit cards by now, i do it every day. transactions on base or solana cost essentially nothing, too.

@deadsuperhero We have support for commerce. you have the ability to buy/sell things here. There's whole niche industries on the fediverse for stuff like with active marketplaces> supported Monero for payment, and the wider Fediverse itself doesn't generally hold a positive view on cryptocurrencies to begin withThat's because it solves the problem you are wanting to be solved, and it threatens the business model of central points of failure & american political power such as stripe

@deadsuperhero I don't think you should be flamed for this at all. Any Fedi instance could easily benefit with a payment solution simply for server costs - an integrated solution is much better than handling that externally, and you could grant things like, a little "support" badge on someone's profile, as an example, a shoutout on their About page, things like that.I'd rather pay my instance admin directly through here instead of Ko-Fi, which is the case right now.

@deadsuperhero I think the idea is just digital cash, your bank knows how much you deposit/withdraw but where you've spend it.

@sun @lain @deadsuperhero I haven't tested Mitra yet (although it's on my todo list, and just rose a place or two when TIL about this feature), is it possible to point it at any XMR node?I ask in part because I've been running one for like 4 years or something

@deutrino @sun @lain @deadsuperhero Yes, any XMR node can be used. Mitra connects to a monero-wallet-rpc instance, which in turn connects to an XMR node:https://codeberg.org/silverpill/mitra/src/branch/main/docs/monero.md
