The new party The Left by Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana, despite not even having an official name yet, is currently polling at 15%, and hence even with Labour. This is an incredible feat and I wish best of luck to the party and its success!

Due to my involvement in EU politics I informed myself a lot regarding the Party of the European Left (a European party consisting of many national left parties of many EU and non-EU states), which still has British members and observer members! From the UK they have:Transform Party (observer member)Democratic Left Scotland (EL Partner)Socialists for Independence [Scotland] (EL Partner)However, the only full member is “Left Unity”. A party that was kind of relevant 2013 when Ken Loach (yes, that one) founded it as a party to replace Labor. In 2014, the party had 2,000 members and 70 branches across Britain, nowadays it seems to be just a glorified blog, promoting Jeremy Corbyn's new party.https://leftunity.org/If anyone has any further information on this party or its plans (possibly merging or being the foundation for Corbyn's party?), or is personally affiliated with it, let me know! I find this very interesting and lots of common info just doesn't make its way over here to Germany.

I will support whatever left party comes out of this. I understand the struggles, I understand the divide. It's not something leftist movements in particular deal with, it's something any movement would struggle with once they even have an ideology instead of a power fantasy. I see the current issues between Zarah Sultana and Jeremy Corbyn as a sign of an authentic party instead of a money or power grab. I urge you to stay rational, inform yourself, and continue supporting them until they disobey their ideals. As a member of the German left, I can tell you that it's never easy supporting a left party, this is simply the first hurdle.

An official membership portal has opened to join Your Party in the UK! :solidarity: https://in.yourparty.uk/en/users/sign_upWith an internal member system, public profiles, an event list that you can even add to, as well as lots of more info, I'm quite surprised at how professional this is for a starting party. I'd be lying if I was saying Die Linke in Germany wouldn't be envious of this... I wish best of success to the party of Zarah Sultana and Jeremy Corbyn! 🕊️

YOUR PARTY IS BACK 🇬🇧 :solidarity: 🚩Internal struggles seem to have been resolved – Zarah Sultana and the rest of the interim leadership of Your Party are now working together again. All of the people who signed up last week are as valid members as those who will sign up now. No split, no two parties, no more confusion. The, among other, union backed movement “Our Party” is still welcomed and their councils and open letter is taken seriously. This is the best result to have come out of this debacle.

The Greenspamming social media campaign truly is something that needs to be studied: The fact the greens in the United Kingdom existed for 35 years with little to no successful campaign beyond a few elected officials, and now just realized that they can scavenge off members from a bigger, more leftist movement than they have built, is making me question how socialist their principles are, and what solidarity means to them. Everywhere where they are seated in parliament they agree to budget cuts, they have no clear anti-imperialist position, they mainly have a leader that now calls himself socialist, which wasn't the case a year ago. They showed solidarity for the Palestinian people when it was socially acceptable to do so. On the other side, people like Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana existed, who fought for that position to become acceptable and lost their public image over it. To get most of your members through a defamation campaign against a struggling new socialist party, and to now call for solidarity, “joining forces”, or forming a coalition because everything else would be “splitting the vote” , exposes how shallow and instrumentalizing this campaign by the greens is.No singular member or representative of Your Party is better off joining the greens, they will be used as a marketing gimmick but never allowed into any positions. Zack Polanski is with his positions much more at odds with the UK Green Party and would be much better off at Your Party 🚩

I'm going to the Your Party Founding Conference from the 29th to the 30th of November in 2025 with @maia and other delegates. With over 50,000 members, Your Party is the largest parliamentary organization in the United Kingdom that truly represents the working class, as it isn't just planning on managing a broken system or fighting against symptoms, but dares to point out and criticize the root of our problems: the capitalist world and its electoral system.I am infinitely thankful for Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana, as well as all other local community organizers and members, for starting something that will go down in the UK's history and shake the foundation of our money-driven system. We say: PEOPLE OVER PROFIT!As a member of the German left (Die Linke), I know how rough it can be existing as a democratic socialist within a world subject to the contradictions of capital. However, we must never steer away from our goal, and on our path there, never forget one thing: we organize hope. That's what socialists do. It's the one resource more scarce than crude oil or good prime ministers. Hope. A finite belief that a better world is possible. I believe there can be no crime greater in the age of neoliberalism than for the ruling class to have robbed us of hope. Nobody has opinions anymore, they state their analysis of the world as fact and their political actions as the only possible consequence. They pretend our solutions are utopian and by doing so smother any social justice movement before it could even start. When in reality another world is possible, otherwise their propaganda would be unnecessary. The war over hegemony, authority, and your future has been outsourced into the one space capitalism has yet to occupy: your mind.Having hope, despite everything, must be the most revolutionary act there is.Trotz(t) alledem! 🕊️🚩

Are their positions so different that they can't play well together? You can't fit a toothpick between the differences in policy, so I suspect it's more about personalities and campaign strategy. Maybe a perception among the Old Left that Greens are middle class, or at least most of the working class see them that way and won't vote for them?@ErikUden

Now, while I see that the media is using statements by Corbyn and Zultana to claim the conference itself was a disaster, I must very much disagree. In a conference of 4000 people, only one person needed to be removed for heckling, which was also the only incident. While people had differing opinions and sometimes strongly expressed them, they were still very kind to one another afterwards.I get that it's not a good sign when big figures like the two party's founders are indirectly carrying out a public fight, however, most of the people I spoke to don't care. They have clear opinions on certain motions which sometimes very much align with either Corbyn or Zultana, but I've not met a singular member that would call themselves to be on either side. Ideologically, sure, but not as in wanting to stick with one and being to exclude the other. I also don't think that either Zarah Sultana or Jeremy Corbyn really have a disdain for one another. The energy is full of excitement, but that always leaves room for heat. Heated debates. Heated statements. Many actions in the heat of the moment. While a harmonious conference would appear nicer on television, with the importance of this historic event, at a global turning point like this, I can only understand why things sometimes go south. #YourParty

Or maybe it's a bit later — not quite sure about the schedule. Technically at 10:40 the speech of an MP was supposed to start and my speech comes right after. Stay tight, it's all very exciting.

@ErikUden > The Central Executive Committee will no longer have special seats reserved for MPsThis is critical. How the does anyone arguing for MPs to have special status think Labour got hijacked by centre-right liberals FFS?!> Dual membership with the greens will be possibleGreat strategy. This will allow people to join the party they feel most aligned with, even if those other one has the most effective ground game where they live.

@Tattooed_Mummy it's okay, but I believe sooner than later the Greens won't stand for their ideals (like they did in every other European country, just look at Germany) and I hope that Your Party, or the Popular Alliance or whatever it will be called, will be organized and ready to such a degree by then that people like you who, for very valid reasons, can no longer support this party, can put your trust back into it.

@ErikUden> I believe sooner than later the Greens won't stand for their ideals (like they did in every other European country, just look at Germany)What happened with the German Greens is a outlier, but it seems to have heavily coloured your perception of Green parties generally. The opposite could be true for me. Since the Greens in Aotearoa are pretty much the only electoral party that has stayed true to their principles for decades, despite the electoral costs at times.@Tattooed_Mummy

@frantictdrinker That I whole heartedly agree with. I honestly have to admit that I can see both sides. On the one side a new party should merge with other left forces, on the other side, allowing dual membership makes it easier for outside forces to take influence on the party. One way or the other I personally believe that it was a mistake, simply for publicity's sake, to expel some members of the SWP on the day of or the day before the conference.Still, with Die Linke it works that way as well: dual membership is allowed in extremely limited cases, only parties that don't run against Die Linke in any election. So, personally, I would also see myself on the more stricter side.

@ErikUden> allowing dual membership makes it easier for outside forces to take influence on the partyIn theory, maybe. Any examples of it actually happening in practice? Surely there are better rules that can be used to eject people working as fifth columnists within the party, most of whom won't out themselves by being formal members of opposing parties.@frantictdrinker

@johannes_lehmann > the a first-past-the-post system isn’t very forgiving of parties without broad appealRealistically, without getting rid of FPP you're always going to be turkeys voting for varying forms of an early Christmas. The Greens, Your Party, and any other third party need to make electoral reform a central plank of their policy platform, and form a nonpartisan campaign to make it happen.@ErikUden

@strypey @ErikUden well if we want the same things, we should learn to play together. Given the current state of "Your Party" (and Labour really), vs. with the ascendance of Reform, I don't understand why they don't just fold up and back the Greens.

@danielquinn> I don't understand why they don't just fold up and back the GreensJust because it makes sense in theory, that doesn't mean it'll work in practice, and sometimes that's obvious to the people involved in ways that are almost impossible to see from the outside. The only way to get a definitive answer on that is to ask them, I guess.@ErikUden

@ErikUden Reform are going to obliterate all traditional parties in the next election, and Corbyn's party will do an excellent job of splitting the vote and ensuring reform's success. The only way out now is proportional representation.

@jmaris If Labour is unwilling to change, there's nothing else you can do but form a different party. The electoral system itself is the problem, not Corbyn and the correct values.Who knows what role Reform will play by the next election, polls change a lot.

Giving the speech was the most intense thing I had done for long. Jeremy Corbyn came to me afterwards and we had, relatively for such a busy conference, a long talk of 15 minutes. He said he was impressed by my speech and wishes to support me in case I get any stress for it in Germany.

If your only tool is a hammer, every issue looks like a nail. If you only think of politics through the lense of electoralism, you'll believe such ridiculous things like a need to back the greens because anything else splits the vote. Which historic changes have been achieved in parliament? None. They were enacted by a parliament, but fought for by mass organizing and in protest on the streets. The best long term alternative I see to the Tories, Labour, and even Reform, is grassroots community organizing, which is the goal of Your Party. Emancipating people, showing them how they can fight for themselves, instead of carrying the faulty belief that we need representatives to fight for us.

Terrible. I just found a thread where my speech was attributed to some random ass Australian actor named “Guy Pearce”. Why? Because Grok identified me as that guy. There are dozens of comments by the original poster who just keeps linking to Grok's response as proof that I'm not Erik Uden.
