Closing the #EpsteinFiles for the night, but I have to call out someone in my field of #ComputerScience / #AI... #JoschaBach is saying some absolutely stupid shit in these emails to a convicted sexual predator. Like, seriously, him and #Epstein have a whole conversation about #Eugenics where he makes this #racist assertion that black people have lower IQs (a debunked metric) because of genetics and causally disregards all evidence otherwise.He then goes on to make standard #Malthusian claims about #overpopulation, calls for mass murder of the elderly, praises #GlobalWarming and #Fascism as drivers of his nebulous misunderstanding of "#Evolution", praises #StarshipTroopers and #TheManInTheHighCastle as arguments in favor of fascism, and then gushes over Epstein's embrace of #PoliticallyIncorrect (ie, #Racism, #Sexism, #Fascism) views.To parrot Ice T, "Joscha Bach is a racist piece of shit."

...and I think it's important to repeat this part of the Epstein Files, because we have to remember, these are the people who put themselves into these positions of power, who openly believe that democracy itself should be subverted so that they can be in control, because obviously, they would be our great and unquestioned leaders...And they are saying absolutely stupid shit, and basically calling for horrible things to be done in order to create some sort of eugenicist fascist Utopia.In the words of Michelle Obama, "they are not that smart."And when we see who they are behind closed doors? They are not good people either. The next time someone claims that fascists aren't around, point them to Jeffrey Epstein and a leading socio-political figure praising fascism, saying that global warming is a good thing because no one will let them violently purge people from society.

There's a lot I disagree with Less Wrong folks about, eg the assumption that AGI is possible, which they build huge and totally unsupported castles in the sky around. But my impression is that they genuinely try to engage with open minds, instead of choosing an ideological lane and sticking to it, and I respect that. They're certainly not baldly misanthropic.

@strypey I like that when Yudkowski talks about death, it's with this idea that no one should ever die period, and when asked if we could only make a fraction of the population immortal what fraction it should be, he basically says he doesn't want to get into the weeds of that and he most definitely doesn't want to encourage Eugenic type thinking: "the good of humanity" means ALL humanity to these people, and that's what makes discussions with them reasonable.

Everyone values their own liberty. A libertarian is someone who values everyone's liberty, *even when* it goes against their own short term wants or self-interest. A self-described "libertarian" who only cares about freedom for them and theirs, and the devil take the hindmost, is *not* a libertarian.I've come across genuine libertarians who align with other left and others with the right.
