I wonder if you can make symlinks on a Mac with 'lñ -s', and if so whether it adds that terrible yellow filter that American movies use to let you know you are In Mexico

@ricci You never used classic APL, did you? If you think about it, a - overstruck with a : looks like a ÷, which was a symbol on the APL keyboard. Guess what? It was accepted as such. For that matter, if you overstrike an F with an L, it looks like an E—and since classic APL used hardcopy terminals, what you saw on the paper had to be what you got, so that worked, too. There were others…

@ricci I can't shake the awful feeling that I'm looking at a special case of something that a lot of 'sanitization' logic is totally unprepared for.Trying to remember the CVE, I think it was from last year, where only servers running certain East Asian locales were affected, for analogous reasons.

@ricci @jens_d I don’t have a Mac at hand today but I’m wondering what shellcheck has to say about this and whether working on a case sensitive file system would matter or whether it’s strictly terminal emulator specific. Interesting typo squatting possibilities may lurk as well 🤔

@ricciI first learned Unix was case sensitive when my data structures class in college used C++. I didn't know C yet, either. Back then the C compiler was cc and the C++ compiler was CC. I had a very confusing first week of class.

@siderea @tschfflr I suspect the difference is that under Unicode Case Folding (which is apparently maintained in a text file‽‽‽) ß has a specific mapping to 7-bit characters but others do not necessarily I am not a Unicode expert

@ricci @siderea @tschfflr I am pretty sure you are correct, but this is a peculiarity of either Tusky or Mastodon, and I think not correct, because the IDNA encoding of that is distinct, and not case folded (I'm pretty sure it ought to be xn--disu-yna0c.systems)
