wow running an XMPP server is a massive pain in the ass I’ve never seen so much messy packages and config options to set up a server. I can literally deploy a Minecraft server with a ten line config and one command but lord with xmpp it’s defining plugins and setting up stun and turn and using some goofy ass proprietary command line syntax to configure users I would like to direct all software developers to look at iperf3 and restic for examples of how good software should be packaged - sane command syntax, single binary in all major repos+docker, sane config format able to be passed as file, flag, or env variable

@nico@toot.exchange still better experience than running a matrix server

@link I’ve actually done that and I would disagree, matrix server was single binary from the repo and single config file in yaml, so as much of a pain as it was, didn’t have to goof with plugins or lua scripts or some goofy ass special format config

@nico@toot.exchange i had more issue with it being a resource-heavy hog (element synapse at least) and it not working through my setup, which uses VPS server as a reverse proxy to make my home server publicly accessible

@link oh, resource hog, hell yeah. Whatever the world record for most resources consumed to send a text message, they went for it
