@vitalis @Hyperhidrosis fitness boxing the video game, or fitness boxing like a type of boxing with a coach etc?i assumed the latter but when I looked it up most results are about a game (i guess with motion controls)

oop I didn‘t mean the video game. I meant boxing for fitness with no intention of competing in the ring.

I agree. it doesn’t matter if you think you lack the power or strength to start boxing because it is more important that you learn proper form and footwork. my boxing coach would sometimes poke fun of bodybuilders that would try boxing because while they had strength, they often lacked range of motion and gassed out fast because they never worked on cardio.

aah in that case, yeah it would be prudent to get situated first with your new job and focus on getting to a normal baseline for core strength, mobility and coordination before signing up for boxing. if you can, try committing to daily walks even if they’re really short and leisurely in pace.

@warmbeverageenjoyer @Hyperhidrosis @vitalis Boxing is great for beginners or experts. It will really really build up your cardio and coordination. I was jacked going into it and it shaved 20lbs off me. I also spared heavily.

@Hyperhidrosis @vitalis @warmbeverageenjoyer I didn't realize you were that thin. That 20lbs was weight I could lose because I was basically powerlifting before I did boxing. If you just eat more, especially more dairy and protein and get into boxing you'll probably get pretty shredded.

@NotImportant @vitalis When you guys talk about picking up boxing - you mean classes at a gym or with a trainer or something, right? How much are y'all paying for that stuff? My area seems to want ~$200/mo wherever I look

@warmbeverageenjoyer @vitalis Yeah. Damn that's expensive, though I guess I live in a cheaper area. The highest my gym got was $95 a month.

my boxing gym with classes is $80 a month and private 1-on-1 lessons with a coach is $60 for 1 hour. It can be initially steep but I do think the investment for instruction is worth it for the first few months to get the basic foundation, and then just pay barebones to access boxing equipment at the gym like I do for solo heavy bag work (I currently pay $40 a month but my boxing gym also includes access to regular gym equipment like free weights and machines) $200 sounds crazy unless that is supposed to just be private coaching

@vitalis @NotImportant That is definitely steep, but I think more reasonable. $40 especially is pretty nice got access to specific equipment you need. I looked around more and found two a bit further away from me that have slightly more reasonable prices...One of them is $120/mo, the other is $140 unless you do a 6 month contract, then it's $120. The latter also has 1 on 1 classes that are $90/hr ish Both include gym access and access to all classes, which seem to be most days of the week. I think I'll keep looking tbh. My apartment complex offers an okay enough gym for where I'm at (some cardio machines, a cable machine, smith machine, free weights, tmx thing) for free so I'm not in the biggest rush, but I definitely would like to do boxing or something similar to build up endurance And potentially help me be less mad :02Hyper:

$120 for 6 months is still a lot to me but I guess everything is relative to cost of living and perhaps that is a factor here. 6 months of training would definitely give you the basics to continue training solo on a bag or to shadowbox with proper form.in regards to anger management, I am a firm believer that boxing is one of the best ways to control your rage. I think punching a heavy bag provides cathartic release of frustration in your life. especially if its a specific person that is pissing you off, I like to imagine their face on the bag. after I am done, I am always at peace and willing to just let it go and think about more important things

@vitalis @NotImportant I'm in an insanely high cost of living area and I will always complain about it. Paying $3100+utilities+$200parking for a small 1br btw That's good to hear that my assumption about it is right. When I was younger I directly had the desire to punch shit, but no real access, and the home equipment I bought was trash that couldn't take a real punch. That feeling kind of dwindled with age but the rage issues remain, which is part of why I'd love to get into boxing or similar. My eventual long-term goal is something like buhurt or maybe hema but that is long, long term

oof that is nearly double my cost of living so I guess it checks out with the rates for your local boxing gyms :nervous: unless you can directly channel your rage to pay out in productivity, just stewing in anger and allowing it to live in your mind rent free is a waste of time. better to excise the feeling of being mad in exchange for better mental and physical health, and free up headspace for the enjoyment of things in life.

@vitalis @NotImportant Yeah T.Tlike I could definitely find a similarly sized place for $1k less but that would add untold hours to my commute, require a second car, and would potentially be in a much lower quality building y'know? And yeah, I'm coming to realize that! I've begun working on the mental health and now some months later that has given me the ability to work on the physical. And that in turn will surely make the mental even better. Exciting stuff

@NotImportant @vitalis currently we're DINK, and we have no debts to speak of (no auto, no student loans, etc), just credit card spending which we pay off in full every monthits a recent move so i can't tell you how it'll look long term, but after the initial spending increase from the move leveled out, we were able to put away $1500 into savings for the first time in a couple months and i don't THINK we'll need to remove it to pay for anything next month, and we should be able to put away at least another 1000 next month. buuuuut also, we are putting basically nothing into retirement at present, which is pretty problematic for being around 30. also, my wife has a part time remote job on top of her full time job, though she didn't get it to help us afford this place --she had the part time job first while she job hunted and doesn't want to quit yet
