       Say what you may about Microsoft, but they just released one of the classic pieces of interactive fiction, Zork, under the MIT license: https://opensource.microsoft.com/blog/2025/11/20/preserving-code-that-shaped-generations-zork-i-ii-and-iii-go-open-source Now that's how I'd like companies to steward their "intellectual property".(Hat tip to @fornever )

       @minoru @fornever I call it "performative goodness". A corporation with a rich history of bad behavior does occasional nods towards geeks to earn some street cred. Sorry, not buying it.

       @isagalaev @minoru @fornever you use Linux, a system developed by the same corporations -- even Microsoft takes a major part in it, having not one but TWO people on the Linux Foundation board of directors! -- with CEOs, shareholders, et cetera. What is even worse, Linux powers not just the most profitable part of Microsoft business, Azure cloud hosting, but also the entirely of digital panopticon on this hell planet. Every single patch sent to the Linux kernel by a sweaty nerd from his mom's basement helps to run massive surveillance state. Every time Google logs and adds another datum into your personal digital profile that is later sold to the highest bidder, it is handled by a Linux-powered system. Every killdrone that Obama used to bomb children in Pakistan was provided data via a Linux-powered datalink and the footage was saved on a Linux server for later analysis and bragging, and Linux Foundation is fine with all of that. They happily provide support, cover for GPL violations (hi, VMWare!), and help developing new code to make the stuff listed above easier.However bad you think Microsoft alone or Windows is, Linux is worse for any of the reasons you can imagine.
