mastodon.social has a spammer problem. I have increased my blocks 300% today, all were from mastodon.social.Perhaps they've always had it and I just didn't see them (due to using Akkoma at the time, which has great spam protection) but now when I'm on other services (Sharkey) it is glaringly obvious the problem is mastodon.social.#Fediverse #Mastodon

I seriously do not understand why not all Fediverse services look at what/how Akkoma does and then just rips the idea and does the same. That is partially the point of open-source.

@mathias I'm intrigued! What's great about Akkoma?

@macberg@mastodon.online Oh, that's a long list, but in short:- Great (admin setting) spam control (literally no spam).- Tree view of threads so you can get an overview of which post a reply is being made to (without having to use a "back" button a million times) - content first design.- Previews (on hover) of both what a post is a reply to but also of the replies made to a post (already without having to expand the thread). This means you'll understand what a "Yeah! Me too!" or "Totally agree!" is in reference to. If you think it is interesting you'll just expand the thread...if not it doesn't use up you whole screen, and you still don't have to "click in, check it out, back out".- Auto-updating threads and better back-filling. If a post is made to a thread whilst you're reading it, that new reply just slots in to its (correct) position in the timeline, as you read the thread.- No bizarre limit of literally anything. You can view more than 4 images (unlike Mastodon, who won't even tell you if a post has 7 images, it just silently discards them), unlimited poll options, nigh on unlimited characters for posts (admin setting) etc.- Theming. Very easy to apply your own themes or install new ones (compatible, mostly, with Pleroma too), either for you as a user or for an admin.- Has had quotes and working search for years before Mastodon.- Can be run on a toaster/fridge (well...) compared to Mastodon which needs quite some hardware (i.e. cheaper to host/run your own instance) and which still builds queues that you have to go full-on Elon (throw money at) on to sort out.- You can post in all kinds of formats (Markdown, HTML, BBCode, MFM etc)- You can add people to lists without following them. Great for keeping tabs of things people say without boosting their follower numbers.- Great publishing controls where you can easily cluster likeminded instances in to a "bubble" and only post to that bubble timeline, so great for communities that have several autonomous instances and still "belong together".Those are some things off the top of my mind. I can probably think of more later. 😄Now let's see how this reply will be formatted on other services...I might go back in to it and edit it...
