I kinda wanna create a 'dumb fun' game! The past time a lot of reasonably simple games like PowerWasher and HomeRenovator made big hits while the gameplay is nice, relaxing and simpleCurrently I have setup a base for a game with a full low poly city, main menu with load and saveBut now the gameplay..I was thinking, would a "post delivery" game maybe fun? Or a trash cleaning sim or something like that?ideas?

@stux FWIW in case that means anything to your decision, delivery games of that sort of nature do already exist. Well, it's hard to truly come up with anything new under the sun and there aren't exactly a lot of them at least.

@stux I like both of those ideas! With trash pick up you could have multiple trucks one for trash, one for recycling, and one for compost!

@stux Wind gusts, kids kicking them around, traffic. Don’t disturb any hibernating bugs! And changes in weather for extra challenges.

@stux Yeah, the what is fun question is much more important.Personally one of my favorite genres out there that seems to fit the general sort of criteria you're discussing is the "screw around while building/maintaining an old junker car" genre. I only know of maybe three or so games in that vein, but it's a lot of fun mostly with the screwing around part. You run around town doing odd jobs, buying parts, modding the car, upgrading garage or whatever, etc.Perhaps something like that, but not a car? Old house maybe? There's also the "The Long Drive" sort. I've seen two other games maybe in its vein and both are pretty bad. It's pretty much just drive forever down a procgen road, gathering fuel, swapping out parts (like putting a diesel engine in a tiny RR car, lol) etc.Dunno.

@stux I saw one game that did that. It's really bad. I don't think you have a lot of competition on that yet.

@stux Some thoughts that might work in a cityscape setting:- Pet detective/rescue- Tree surgeon- Sewer maintenance (cleaning fat bergs). Gross, but might be fun. Lots of catacombs.- Squatting abandoned buildings (decorating, grafiti-ing, hooking up water and power, evading police)- One of those streetview mapping/parking scan cars.

@stux how about like a game like the video a few years back where the zoo keepers are trying to do menial tasks around baby pandas and the baby pandas keep getting into things and trying to climb on the zoo keepers.

@stux Ever since the Iron Man movie tie-in game came out in like 2007 I’ve wanted a more fleshed-out superhero style game where you can seemlessly transition from walking/running to momentum-based flying. I think the closest thing I’ve seen was Just Cause 3’s jet-powered wingsuit which is great, but crashing lacked some weight since you can lose a lot of momentum just from air resistance. All that is to say, physics-based flight with obstacles to avoid in an open world would be super cool

@stux the idea of making reasonably simple games just makes me think of this video https://youtu.be/-6DftQveCJo (viewer discretion advised...)I always wanted to make some kind of game that used real world real time data as a dynamic element in the game. Like maybe the number of posts using a particular hashtag is used as the value for something... Maybe it's obfuscated behind the scenes and the player thinks it's just random. Maybe it's obvious and player driven... Idk but I liked the idea. I only ended up one proof of concept game with that idea and it wasn't very good 🤣 I like what you have cranked out so far though!

@stux I like the trash pickup. Sometimes there can be something interesting, curious, valuable, cute (like a kitten), or repurpose-able in the trash. There could be fun in the randomness and also points for making good choices when repurposing.

@stux Whatever it is, it needs to fit the niche where the player is getting the enjoyment from accomplishing the task itself while it's still mindless enough that they can just slap on some of their own music and relax while playing it
