Boomer Question Time:I'm looking for a mp3 player on android. I want it to read local files on my SD card.I want to set my Playlist without AI suggesting shit.I want to search my local files by Artist, Album, genre. Now, here's the holy grail request. I want to do all this without needing to tell home-base what im doing. Translation: no internet required. #mp3players #android

@fry I tried that one. It will not allow me to change playlists unless it connects to internet. I found that out on a 6 hour road trip through the Louisiana/Texas back woods.I appreciate the feedback.‐--------------Edit: i was thinking of a different appThe app would not read the inserted SD card. All music had to be local only

@ThewTheKooky I've never had that problem, and the app says it is designed to be offline. That said you've experienced the problem yourself, so all I can say is it should work the way you want it to, and I'd recommend giving it another try. Meanwhile, I'll do some testing of my own. I usually just choose an artist or album, or sometimes I choose to shuffle the whole library...Where you using hand-crafted playlists you imported from some other app? Or did you make playlists in music let?

@ThewTheKooky there was an android fork of winamp, i think. Unfortunately i don't use "mp3" the same way you do; i have mp3 CDs loaded in my changer with 4 days worth of streamrips of a genre i like on them. I have a thumb drive with radioplays (about 300 hours worth i'd wager). And then i run subsonic (navidrome) for my entire mp3 collection, but that requires connectivity.it's your "need to be able to search local" that's throwing me off. VLC can do everything but perhaps not search.

@ThewTheKooky I'll mention again that back before wifi existed i had a windows PC in my SUV, with a soundblaster extigy (or audigy, whichever was first), a 13" CRT, and a keyboard with the touchoad on it, and the audigy/extigy remote control. I'd load up all my music on the computer, and winamp would manage everything. press "J" and type and it would filter on what i typed (like search); the remote let me random, play, pause, etc.802.11b and the availability of things like ipods made this moot

@ThewTheKooky @ThewTheKooky oh also i just looked, and the app i use for subsonic supports using sdcard and local storage as a "backend" - but playlists might not work how you expect.and if android restricts apps using the SD card then you're going to need to find a first party (read: google) player. I'd check if VLC can access your SD card, and if it can, you can check out winamp or symfonium (the app i use). Just be aware you may need to convert your .m3u to xml playlists or something, idk.
