Housing is a human right, but stable housing should be a human right. I can't even begin to explain what having stable, reliable housing for the last year has done for my chronic ptsd and chronic illness. Everything has been better - Sleep, mental health, digestion, you name it.It breaks my heart that this is legitimately a massive privilege these days here in Canada. If you are a renter here in BC, there is no stability in your human right to housing. Our rental protections have been gutted for years and years. As someone who has gone through that process it helped absolutely nothing even when it was adjudicated in our favour.Nearly everyone I know lives in fear of eviction or homelessness. There is no real way to ever feel comfortable or at home. If you are disabled there is nothing available that will allow you housing at this point other than a 7-14 year waitlist, or family unless you've already been in the system for years. This is completely lost on older generations most of the time. We are powerless in the face of wealthy landlords who will do whatever the fuck they want with next to no retribution for any of it. Stable housing should be a human right. An ability not to feel like a leaf in the wind who pays 75% of your income to subsidize a wealthy land owner. Life shouldn't have to be this awful.

Had a cry after dividing my rhubarb this morning because I might actually be around to see it grow and divide it again in a couple of years and I want this for everyone I know. I've spent nearly 35 years moving constantly as have my friends. Building and holding community is so hard when we get flung around to anywhere we might possibly be able to afford, but even that isn't a possibility for most of my friends anymore because with every move you need to save even more to be able to move again. And living somewhere where you could socialize or enjoy yourself without getting evicted has been lost for most people. God forbid you host a birthday party or dinner.
